I am thinking about getting a dog, but I work 8 hours a day (7a-3p, M-F)... Would a dog be okay for 8 hours alone or is that awful to do? I don't know if they can go 8 hours without going out to use the bathroom... I know my bosses wouldn't really care if I brought my dog to work, but I really don't want to be THAT person, you know. Anyone else have this problem?

i have never had a problem with ticks, found a few on my pug. new neighbors and they have dogs, i'm guessing that's the problem. my pug is an inside dog except for the normal playing and peeing outside. i'm worried because he sleeps with me and and all of the surroundings in the house. is there an immediate killer i can put on him to kill them now, then to treat my house then the yard. thanks

my kitten already has a small scratching post, but he's kind of outgrown it, he towers over the top when he's stretched out, and also id like to get another for the bedroom so he stops tearing up the bottom of our blankets...What is a nice, "fun", inexpensive post for kittens??

I just rescued a kitty and the previous owners offered no information to the facility where I got her other than her estimated age (1.5 years). They do not sterilize the animals there, nor do they do any tests. I want to know if I can tell if she was previously spayed. I would hate to see her be cut open for no reason, and honestly I do not want to have to pay for something that is not necessary. I imagine I could look for a scar, but her hair is pretty thick and she is freaking out if I bring the clippers near her to shave her belly for a better look. She is going to the vet tomorrow to have blood work and vaccinations, if I cannot tell will the vet be able to?
I am really not being cheap, if she is not spayed I will have it done. I just do not want to have her put under and cut if there is no need.

I've been looking at them for a while now and I want to make sure that they are worth the price that you have to pay. Many I've seen are around $1500-$2500. Are they easy to potty train? Are they good with kids?

My daughter has had to put her dog in a kennel and cat in a cattery, its going to be for around 6 weeks, due to a house move going pear-shaped. She is not sure whether its a good idea to visit each w/e, as this may upset them when she leaves. Does anyone else have experience of this and any suggestions? No stupid answers please Im not in the mood!

The pup was saved from the shelter (hooray for Mark) and is 6 months old. It has a yellow continual discharge from both eyes and we are hoping to find an affordable or home remedy since even the cost of feeding the dog is almost beyond his means. He is attempting to train the dog as a companion dog and wonders if anyone might know where he can find assistance with funding for the assistance with training, and possible upkeep as he is disabled and additional income is not likely. I don't know much about grants but was wondering if there are grants for such things? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

For those who don't want to sterilize their pets via surgery but want to be responsible pet owners or to give to feral cats in their food to prevent them from reproducing? Can't the drug companies develop a safe drug for animals?

In South East Essex
just like their are for dogs and cats etc, for people who tried to home a rat, guinea pig, hamster etc and then gave them away to shelters?
I want a new cage mate for mine, but would rather use re-homing than a pet store.

I've tried leaving the house for a few seconds and then going back in and praising her for not howling, but I can't seem to get her to stay quiet for more than 5 minutes. I leave her the tv on, she has lots of toys, fresh water, treats scattered round the house for her to hunt out & she even has on old t-shirt of mine in her bed. Her howling has started to cause friction between next door & us, which I can't really blame them cos if it were the other way around, I wouldn't be happy with a dog making all that noise.

I have a dalmation/doberman/lab mix, she is almost 8 years old, and she is ALL BLACK except for a little bit of white on her chest. Last month I noticed a little snow/bleach white spot on her ear, I checked it and it was hair in a perfect circle. Now I have found another perfect circle snow/bleach white spot behind the same ear. Yesterday I also found another perfect circle, snow/bleach with spot on her shoulder on the same side as the ear.
My question is: What is causing this???

we adopted a kitten about 3 weeks ago, he was very verbal to start out with, then lastweek we went away for 2 days on vacation and since we have been back the kitten wont stop talking...if i stop playing with him for 1 minute he yells and screams at me, he talks while he is in the litter box, eating, playing, you name it! he's not sick, he was just at the vet before we left on thursday for shots and a check-up. Do you think its because i give him too much attention and he's taking advantage of that, or that he is still mad?? Or think its just because he's a very verbal cat?
