We have our vet float our horses' teeth. Would we be better off to get an equine dentist? We have a good relationship with our vet and he has seen our pets and livestock for years.

Also, I have another question going in words/wordplay about floating. Please check it out: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AstqAkVazg0WIDUC5TlteNfsy6IX?qid=20060812200011AAArXwn .

Thank you for your time and for your thoughtful answers.

my gerbils are about 2 months old. i want ONE litter of babies from them. first, before the mother starts to show, are there any signs shes pregnant? second, how do i know when the female comes into heat? and third: i have read that you must not separate the mother and father when the babies are born because the stress of a new mother raising a litter on her own is too much. is there anybody out there who has had a mother gerbil raise her litter on her own because i really want to separate the mother and father so that they dont breed more than once but i need to know if this is safe or not. thank you!

It used to be my dog would occasionally eat a box of cereal or two, but we blocked him out of the kitchen & last night he ate a hole in our $2000 tempurpedic matress. We have a crate we're going to keep him in now when we go out, but I don't want to have to do that forever. We're also not letting him sleep with us anymore since he ate the mattress which is a big change for him. What should I do?

So,what would make a kitten that's 14 weeks old lay around all day,not eat much and doze off quite a bit throughout the day and act cold? Does that mean they are sick? Does that mean they are in heat? What do they act like when they are in heat? Someone goes outside and they act like they want to go too! Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

He barks everytime we put him in the crate, sometimes for maybe 5 minutes, sometimes for longer. And he doesn't really go in there even when we leave the door open the whole time. Sometimes i put some new toys and treats in there, he'll run in there, grab it and run back out. What can i do to help him like his crate? I'm worried that he really hates it!

We did everything by the book and introduced them slowly etc. However the male keeps going for the kittens throat and I can't help but think that if we weren't there to intervene, he could possibly kill her. Will this ever end? It's absolutely terrifying to see and I just don't know what to do...HELP!

the white part has red init now, when it never was before. It looks like dark red bloodshot. The vet said nothing is wrong with it. It doesn't seem to bother her at all, and no sign of infection. Any ideas?

I've asked a question about why cats are so popular, and one answer seems to crop up a lot, because they don't have to be walked especially in bad weather. First of all that seems as though people want a pet without any real responsibility, and second of all, what's wrong with walking in the sun, the rain and the snow, or any weather for that matter? It's better than parking your backside too often, surely? And yes, I do realise that some people can't get out of their homes and rely on felines for companionship.

While I abhor the treatment of the greyhounds, I have never seen one run and would really like to. Now I live near a race track. I would like to go just once and I thought that maybe by donating an equal amount to greyhound rescue as I would spend at the track, that might make it ethically okay for me to go.
I would like some feedback on this other than "I dunno" or "why do you ask?".

We've had cats in the past, none at the moment, and they always seem to harass to be in or out even if there's a door or window open for them, they puke behind radiators from the window sill, they scratch furniture, kill things or bring them home alive, poop in peoples gardens, and generally have an air of 'I'm better than you' about them. What is the attraction of these critters?
