You did good. Goldies should not be kept in bowls.

The "fish expert" doesn't know much about water. Oxygen dissolves into the water at the surface. The pump will move the surface water a lot allowing more oxygen to dissolve in. DO NOT give your goldies a live plant unless you intend it to be a treat. They will dig it up and eat it.

You need to get a filter as well.

Chances are those fish have very little muscle mass. They have lived in a bowl of stagnant water their whole lives. The current in the tank now may be a bit much for them. They sell valves for air pumps- they cost very little- that can control the amount of O2. You can reduce the current by reducing the O2 output. Chances are in a few days they will be ok.

Each gold fish will need probably 10-15 gallons each buy the time they are full grown (if they arnt already). I too adopted two goldfish who were put in a bowl (bowls arnt good for goldfish bacause goldfish need surface air too, and bowls leave them gasping for air), and i moved them to a larger tank also, they bumped into the wall and started bleeding because thy were VERY fragile, they got used to it though, all you need to do is this: make sure you have agood filter (to remove ammonia and waste), tank with surface area for gas exchange, a light (goldfish thrive better with 8hrs of light a day), rocks that are small enofe the goldfish cant get them stuck in their throat, or too big to pick up. Changing 30-40% of their water each week is important due to the large ammount of oxygen the use, and waste they produce. (use de-clorinated water too). PRO GOLD fish food is good because it's not like flake foods that contribute to swimbladder by allowing air into the goldfish, pellets sink and can be mistook for rocks and eaten. If you dont like pro gold, soak the food in water so they dont expand in the goldfish. Romaine lettuce, peas, earthworms, insect larvae, and cuecumber are some foods goldfish enjoy too. Also, dried bloodworms, daphina, and brine shrimp are good. PUMPS ARNT ALWAYS NESSASARY BUT THEY HELP YOUR GOLDFISH THRIVE SO I RECCOMEND ONE!!!

Did you wait for 1 week before putting your goldfish into the new tank? Because sudden change in water temperature, ph and quality of water could have cause the goldfish to act weirdly.

The air pump is ok.

They should settle down. I hope this tank is at least 29 gallons. You need to add a really good filter or two for the tank as well. And make sure you keep up on water changes. (you did remove the chlorine from the water, right?)

the pump will not help to give oxygen because air do not dissolve in water put a water plant in it . it will give dissolved oxygen . the gold fish take time to adapt in tank. usually goldfish live generally for 9 years . for more imformation contact me at love4_1991@yahoo.co.in

Please make sure the tank is at least 20 gallons. 10 gallons per goldfish at the least, the more water the better. They can get up to a foot long! Also make sure to have a good filter in the tank. If you have anymore questions let me know.

They should be going to the surface. I think it is natural for them. Also try to put them in their regular tank with gravel again. Bring them to your local petstore or a vet. Just to be safe, it probably isn't anything serious but just check with a petstore or something. Also try the website below.
