I dont know, but it is absolutely amazing that the can run this fast and not run into anything. My cat does circle - 8 moves around furniture when he is going so fast that I am not even sure how he sees the things that he avoids.
Then again, this is the same cat that will stand behind the recliner and try to jump on it, measure its distance wrong and end up sliding down the back of the recliner!

According to Natural History magazine, Cats have been clocked at about 30 miles an hour. This is faster than squirrels and most people. Lesson to be learned? Don't chase the cat or let it chase you.

I think its about 500m in about 45 seconds, but then it also depends on how quickly they want to get somewhere i guess, most of the domesticated cats, that i know of, wouldnt run anywhere unless it involved food.

One source says 30 mph, and based on how fast the little monsters can leave me in the dust, that sounds reasonable.

I've been chasing cats up and down my road trying to answer this question.
Problem is, they either run off the road before I get them up to speed, or they disappear under my car's wheels, and then they don't want to run anymore...
I'll keep trying, and get back to you...

I have never thrown a stop watch on one of mine, but fairly fast. Faster than I can run, for sure!
