one of mine does this too - since its not a problem I dont worry about it too much, but apparently its a sign of intelligence as they have learned to use their paw as a tool

Not weird...I have had paw suckers and swimmers. I had one cat that would wait until I finished my milk, and I would give her the glass. She would stick her paw in the bottom and drink the milk off her paw. One of the cats I have now swims in her water bowl...splashing it all over the floor and playing in it. I have another that will only drink from a running faucet, and yet another who, when the water bowl is empty, will sit in the middle of the bathroom sink to clue me that she needs water.

I've said it a few times on this board...you can never use "normal" and "cat" in the same sentence. =^..^=

Cats are wierd by nature. My cat puts his dry food in the water by scooping it out with a paw and dumping it in the water. When it has soaked enough, he scoops it back out and eats it. And he does drag the bowl around the floor. Of course, he waits til its full to do this.

Oh don't worry cats are just mental, one of my mums will run through the door when you go into the toilet and then sit in the bath waiting for you to put the water on a small drip so she can sit and drink it mid air, the other one will put its head in a watering can in the garden to drink.

I have never seen them drinking from the water bowl lol.

my cat does this all the time when she cant get her head into somthing to drink out of (like a cup). for the spilling water on the floor i'm not sure but if the paw thing continues try and get hre/him a bigger bowl.

That just means that she doesn't quite have the ability or she doesn't want to drink out of the water bowl with her mouth. No worrys... she will come around, and like CF said, she's just using her paw as a tooll.. don't worry! Be happy

Maybe there is something about the bowl she doesn't like. Sometimes my cat drags food out of his bowl then eats it off the floor.

I think you should leave the cat to do its own thing... they are fussy creatures - my cat won't even drink water out of a bowl - he'll only drink it out of the sink or the bath in the bathroom and we just leave him to do that because there is no way we will ever get him to drink out of a bowl!

My cats will only drink out of a large vase..(one with a wide opening). I think cats watch what people do and try to mimic it to the best of their abilities. When I had a water bowl, they saw me drinking out of a large coffee mug and all the sudden, I had to offer them a large vase! Maybe your cat has seen how you take sustinence in with your hands through a fork or spoon and is just trying to do the same.

try using a shallower bowl, or a saucer. It may be that when your cat drinks, her whiskers are getting pushed against the bowl, which will be uncomfortable for her, so rather than be uncomfortable, she is finding alternative ways to get at the water.

Cats sometimes just don't like to do what we want them to do! My cat would rather drink water from pretty much anywhere else than her bowl. Don't worry, she's just rebelling!
