Depends on the dog. I like to give my dogs regular names like Mike, David or Tim. It makes them feel more human and part of the family

Choosing a name for a dog should depend on the dog itself.
Is it a large or small dog? What color is the dog? What kind of personality does the dog have? you wouldn't call a big black dog Little Red, or Spot. Choose a name that you and your "best friend" will be happy with for years to come.

Is it a male or female? What breed. Fifi might be fine for a poodle but not for a great dane.
Pretend your dog is out in the yard and you are standing on the porch calling her. See how it sounds.
In America we like to give our dogs Russian names like Sasha and Misha. In Russia they give their dogs English names.
I once had a guinea pig named Sandy and then my daughter became best friends with a girl named......Sandy! So common boy or girl names may not be your best bet.

the less syllables, the easier it will be for the dog to learn. Also, you might not want the name to rhyme with commands that you might teach it. Besides that, anything you like will work. Oh, and keep in mind, how the name might sound yelling it out in a public place ( eg "Snookums", come!)

I think it's personal preference, kinda like giving name to your newborn. Think of a few before getting a dog, then as soon as you see the dog, you'll know which one you should use.... :)

Something you would name a child. My dog's name is Abby, my stepdad's dog's name is Joey, my best friend's dog's name is Lilo. Something like that. Best for:
Boy; Hunter, Camper, or Jesus
Girl; Mary, Keely, or Ury
