You know, those that have the two metal prongs that close when you are putting them into the wall, and once they are in, they spring the two prongs to prevent the plug from coming out again. I need the exact name, please!

My shoes are made of the common fake leather material which is fabric with some top coat on it that makes it appear leather like. But the shoes have gone through a lot of wear and much of the coating has peeled off. I wanted to know if there was some product to repair it.

I recently remodeled my bathroom and layed down a new subfloor(plywood) and cement backerboard. The floor seemed level and I put down mortat then the tile.

After I grouted and it dried, a crack formed in one line of grout from one wall to the other wall(aprox 6 ft).

Can I just regrout that line to fill in the crack or is there something else I should do?

I inherited a rather large Victorian style house. It is in desperate need of maintenance such as roofing, trim repair and painting, asbestos remediation, wiring and plumbing. I've called just about every contractor in the phone book or in the local trades. Most of them don't even return my calls, and the ones I am able to reach directly are either too busy, don't service my area or don't do residential work (I wish they would say that in their ads). I also tried Service Magic, but the few that did respond to my inquiries gave very high estimates - like one that wanted $18,000 to do one area of the roof. I think $1,800 would be a lot for one dormer! Like I sais, some things need immediate attention. What is a good way to get a reliable contractor?

When ANY water is on in the house the pipes squeal. It stops when the water stops. I read online about pressure valve adjustments and tried that, but didn't work. I tried running everything at once and it stops, but returns when I've turned off all but one or two sinks. I even turned off the main shutoff valve, drained water from the house using the bleed valve, then turned back on the main (it squealed as it was refilling the pipes). I don't know what else to try [except a plumber]. Any ideas??

Other than pressure washing and using TSP to clean it, is there any additional prep necessary? Should I use a direct-to-metal primer if I encounter bare aluminum? I will be using Sherwin Williams "Superpaint" satin. I will be spraying it. I usually use a 415 tip, but I have considered using a fine-finish tip such as a 412. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I replaced a 3 prong electrical cord on my dryer recently. I lost one of the bolts inside the dryer and used a wing nut as a replacement. Now he heating element doesn't work and i noticed that the back panel reads "use only copper nuts to attach electrical cord". is my heating element out because i used a metal wing nut? If i replace it with a copper nut will it start to work again?

No wires have been cut or damaged. Any ideas? Help/advice would be greatly appreciated. If you have a chariot requiring repair, let me know!

My family recently turned our garage into a room fo our uncle to move in. Because of the position of the water heater, there was no way to avoid the heater not being in the room. My uncle has lived in there for the past year or so with no problems at all, but now he's moving out, and I'm being pushed out there to allow my younger brothers to have their own rooms. I am INCREDIBLY paranoid about something happening to the water heater... A fire, gas leak, or carbon monoxide leak, all which can kill me in my sleep. We already have a smoke detector in there, but I plan on getting a CO detector and a natural gas detector just to be safe. There is a window in there, which I plan on keeping cracked open at all times to allow fresh air into the room. Am I being overly paranoid? What are the chances of a water heater catching fire or leaking carbon monoxide or natural gas?

We sanded down years and years (old house, perhaps built in the 30s or 40s...maybe older) of paint (maybe 10 layers) down to the original wood on a bathroom door and also the woodwork on the door frame to this bathroom door. Doing so removed the paint that caused the space on the wood frame to breathe again. We painted a fresh coat on the door frame molding, but once it dried, we noticed an ammonia/pee smell coming from the area that can now "breathe." Any suggestions on how to combat this smell? It's pretty strong.

I have to get screws out of an old bench. I know nothing about tools, so I was wondering if I could use a power drill to take them out (yes I know it can put screws in). If not, a screwdriver should work right?
Thanks

I defrosted my upright, stand-alone freezer by unplugging it and leaving the door open; now when I close the door, the gasket won't seal and the door won't stay closed (I had to tape it shut with duct tape). It was working fine before I defrosted it. What has gone wrong and how do I fix it?
