I hooked the garden hose to the tap in the garage. It leaked heavily at the tap. I hooked it up to another tap in the garage and it leaked just as heavily. I bought a new hose. I hooked the new hose to both taps and it still leaks at the tap. I had my husband hook it up to each tap to make sure it was as tight as it would go... what next?
My garage is getting soaked... and I need to water the flowers often.

Thanks for your help!

Below is a description from my rental house. Any idea what might be wrong to cause this? Washer used to get cold water OK: Would a plumber or appliance repair person fix this?

It appears my washer is receiving only hot water no matter
what temp I select. I usually let laundry sit in the washer a few hours, but today I did two loads and each in the dryer immediately. One was cold, one was hot, but both came out the same temp - hot.

I have had a problem with my toilet for the last 2-3 months. I cannot afford a plumber and want to try to do it myself. I have lived in this house for ten years and I have never had any problems up until now. When I drain the dishwater, it goes directly into the toilet, water rises to the top and almost overflows. There is back up when I use the washing machine; that is it only drains so much into the pipe and backs up. The water that goes into the machine, smells, not bad, but enough. Of course when I flush after I use it, it again flows to the top and nothing gets flushed away. Ah yes, I need a new wax seal as when the water level goes down it is coming out of the side. It's a mess. I've tried a plunger, bleach, liquid plumber, nothing works. Any help would really help. Thx.

Recently I needed some work done on an outlet, a switch, and two lights in my garage. Essentially I just needed the whole thing wired correctly so that all the components worked.

The only guy I could get to answer his phone, let alone pay me a visit, was a "master electrician" whose card I found on a corkboard in a local coffee shop.

The guy was very pleasant and professional, but he charged me $285 for about 15 minutes worth of work and no parts. I'm rationalizing to myself that I couldn't have done the work myself, and given how hard it's been even finding an electrician, I was better off paying what he asked than getting a bunch of people to come give me estimates over a period of a week or so.

But bottom line: did I get ripped off?

I had Roto Rooter come out to clear my main drain. They said they went 80 ft out and could go any further. They are now wanting to put a camera in to investigate further. Am I looking at some major work to fix this problem? Could there be a simple solution to fix this?

The toilet in my spare bathroom is not working nor is there any water. The water was working just fine a few weeks ago and the valve is still turned on but no water is coming out nor do I hear the sound of water running.

I turned the valve off and on again and still don't hear or see water coming into the tank.

The water in the bathroom sink is working so I'm not sure why the toilet would all the sudden stop functioning.

I have well water, could the minerals in the water have caused a blockage in the lines or is there something else that would cause the water to just stop running? This bathroom is not used very often so the toilet does not get flused daily like the other bathroom in the house. Do I need to get a hold of a plumber ASAP or is this something common that happens.

Thanks.

The lot next door is empty and just sitting there, so after careful thought, I decided I would like to buy it and put an inground pool in with a diving board and fence it all in and make a really nice place for my family to hang out. As a second thought, I dont want it to be say 10 feet deep all the way around, I would like to start at say a foot and gradually get deeper at the other end. Is this possible. How much does it cost? We live in Illinois.

Menards flyer came out with a 36 inch door this week by Masterbrand that I like a lot. I would like to have it installed.
My brother came over last PM and told me the present door is 32 inches and opens out onto the front porch instead of into the
house. He says the trim on a prehung door will be facing the inside of the house which will be a problem if I put the new door in backwards,
I want to have a 36 inch door to replace the old one and of course have the space opened up to accomodate the new door. I am wondering if this is going to be a big mess? I am sure we would have to knock out the plaster and the old lathes to put in a new door frame and it may be more than I am expecting.
Am I in for a mess and what do you know about this? My house was built in 1904 and the origional plaster is still there. The door which is there now leaks really bad and has a huge gap where I can see light. I am not prepared for another Illinois winter with a huge gas bill,

I got a lawn mower from someone who tried to fix it.
I cleaned the foam air filter, they had put 10w30 in it, I changed it to the recomended 30 weight. I drained the gas, it looked yellow, they might have added kerosene? I looked in the carb, it is a plastic bowl, with a float and a screen, no screws or anything like it. I started it, and ran it around my yard twice and it died. I get shocked by the spark plug, but there is no combustion. I have compression behind the plug. When I pull the cord a lot, there is the gas smell, but the muffler or motor wont get hot. I think I need to clean the cilinder head. Is there anything I should use. Carb cleaner? Im going to get a new spark plug today, does anyone have any ideas or help. Its a briggs and straton 3.75 easy start sprinter.

Thanks for looking. Please help

The washer is the only machine using that outlet. The problem only started last week and I've had previous machines using that outlet before so I doubt it is an electric problem...could the washer's motor or wiring be faulty?

We are redoing our roof and have had several different suggestions for venting. We have a decent size house and only 1 roof vent, so we know this is inadequate. Been told to do 1 "power vent" and told that you use this instead of other vents rather than in addition to? Someone else said just put 5 or 6 more roof vents. Another told us to do ridge vents, I think they were, along the top of the roof. We have a split level house and it is already difficult to keep it cool because it is so open to the lower level. Any suggestions best venting to use to maximize keeping attic cool? Thanks so much.

we are looking for a bungalow and some we have seen have metal poles supporting the lintel over the windows inside the rooms. under the windows outside there are different bricks to rest of the house. is there a structural fault with these houses. should we buy one or does it need a full survey which is expensive. this is standard on all these particular houses.
