I have had a problem with my toilet for the last 2-3 months. I cannot afford a plumber and want to try to do it myself. I have lived in this house for ten years and I have never had any problems up until now. When I drain the dishwater, it goes directly into the toilet, water rises to the top and almost overflows. There is back up when I use the washing machine; that is it only drains so much into the pipe and backs up. The water that goes into the machine, smells, not bad, but enough. Of course when I flush after I use it, it again flows to the top and nothing gets flushed away. Ah yes, I need a new wax seal as when the water level goes down it is coming out of the side. It's a mess. I've tried a plunger, bleach, liquid plumber, nothing works. Any help would really help. Thx.

your main line is plugged it has nothing to do with the toilet. If you are on a septic get it pumped and have them clear the lines. If in city you need to get line rootered out. sometimes places rent sewer machines. good luck

If other fixtures are backing up into the toilet, the main line is clogged. Since you need to replace the wax seal anyways, rent an auger and try to clean out the line while the toilet is removed.

It sounds like you might have roots from trees growing in your sewer line. A plumber uses a special tool that he runs down through the sewer line to cut these roots away. You may be able to rent one of these yourself to help save some money. Hope this helps. Good luck to you.

Sounds to me like a root infestation down the sewer line. Best solution is Roto Rooter. BUT they do make products that say they fix the problem BUT I have never tried them..Good Luck
