We've noticed in the past year that we can see the faint outline/shadow of the ceiling joists in our one story ranch where the beams run and the area where it looks like the nails are.

The other day, I was doing laundry and went to hang something up and I hit the metal cover on the hot water heater over the valve that protects the valve and such. No big deal because that's why they have it there. My gf's uncle came downstairs and tried to force the cover back on. I took a shower later that night and the hot water went out after 5 minutes. I noticed that the gas was turned off yesterday because its a gas heater and the repair people probably turned it off, or he did. I left a note for the uncle and he assumed my gf wrote it. He said I broke it. How on earth did I break it if I only knocked the cover off? I'm pissed off because that's what the damn cap is for: TO PROTECT THE VALVE!!! What else could be wrong?

I recently had a pool and spa installed, and now when I am in my bathroom and am using a vacuum or my blow dryer, the lights constantly flicker. Can someone explain the details about electricity usage in a home and why this is happening?

I have a jeep with vinyl seats and the drivers side is torn-- i used one of the repair it yourself kits however i think it came out looking just like a home repair-----does anyone have an idea of how much a rip 4 inches long in a tan vinyl seat would cost to repair it is about 1/2 inch wide as well--i understand no one can give me an exact price--however the seat is in my jeep my jeep is not registered---so just bringing it to an upholsterer would mean taking the seat out or getting temp plates --alot of work if for an estimate if i have a ball park idea ahead of time i could decide if it is worth the effort

I was trying to remove the pop-up from the bath tub when both brass screws or bolt heads snap off. The stem is sticking out and can easily be grabbed however the stem/screw will not budge. The screw is to small to drill. I used various lubricates to loosen it but that didn't work. would heat and lubricate work? or what else can I try??

I am planning to clean my kitchen tomorrow. What I am confused about is how to clean the exterior of cupboard doors. They are made of laminated wood and over time, there is a very slight layer of grease in some places especially the cupboard door near the gas. So any ideas??

I recently put a Japanese paper lantern in my room, and now, every time I turn the light on, there are soft, dull, thudding/tapping/knocking noises. The taps come at irregular times, and don't always sound the same. The sounds also come when the light is off, but most of the time, they come when the light's on.
I've decided that it can't be somebody outside, because the taps have come in broad daylight, when one of my parents was outside. Besides that, the tapping sounds seem to be coming from the ceiling, or the lantern.
I'm curious to know what the sounds are.

i just dropped a new 17.5hp engine into my tractor. all the mechanical stuff is hooked up and i just need to attach all the electrical. i got the ground wires attached, but im not sure where the other 4 wire go. my fault for not marking them before i disconnected them..... i need a diagram that shows where everything plugs in.

if i plug something into the wrong place, will anything bad happen, or nothing at all? i have an electronic carb, if that makes a difference.

ok so the area we live in ( we rent a 2 bd apt) is really nice however the upkeep of the inside dont get much attention ( the spend every bit of their time making the outside and landscape perfect). and about a month ago my DH and i and a few neighbors notice that the stairs were pulling away from the wall . so we made many calls to the office to ask for someone to fix them and they never did. well one day our neighbors were comming home ( they are not small people niether are we) and the husband fell throught the stairs! it broke completely and he fell to the ground. well then they had a maintenance man come fix them and he just put a couple of boards under the step to fix it. however now those are comming out of the wall and the stairs are starting to rock again when you step on them and i am very fearful that i being pregnant and carrying maddy will fall throught the steps and so i call again about a week ago to report it and no one has come out to look at them again. so does anyone have any suggestions on how to get them too take my concern about the steps and actually do something about it and not just put a bandaid and to have them fix it for good. and do i have any right as a renter to ask for an inspector to come out and look at it ?

I went to dry my clothes, and nothing.
When turned on the motor humms like it wants to turn but doesn't. When i took it appart, got the drum and belt off, i tried again to cycle it and again the motor hummed as if it wanted to turn but didn't. Could this be as simple as replacing the motor, or am i missing something easier?

Oven is less than 5 years old and the door seals are good. Takes oven about 3 minutes to light with electric pilot. 450 Degrees takes 35 minutes. I think I have some kind of gas pressure or flow problem. Or some type of mixture problem. My other gas appliances work fine. My Themostat and temperature are accurate I checked them with a electronic lab thermometer. Any help would be appreciated.

There are no clips, and I can't find anyway to get the plastic cover off. You can only slide it a little but not enough to move it out.

I seem to have had a lot of problems with all sizes of refrigerators over the years, even though I'm careful to keep them clean and defrosted regularly, etc.. In the small place I now live, in three years I've had two used compact fridges stop working; this time I decided to buy a new one, just so I have a warranty for the next time something goes wrong. I have the option of buying an extended warranty of up to 5 years. Since it's usually the compressor that goes and more expensive to buy the compressor than buy a new fridge, seems to me it's worth buying that extended warranty. Feedback, anyone??? Thanks.

I have an above ground, 18ft.x4ft intex pool. My clorine and pH levels are both fine. I have had problems with my water turning green. When I shock it the green goes away but I am left with cloudy water and a residue at the bottom. I have tried vacuuming it but it just goes in the vacuum, through the filter and straight back into the pool. I have also tried using a clairifier but that doesn't seem to help one bit. I need some good advice.
