A handy man should not be expected to make the wiring connections unless he's an electrical contractor. He should make the installation up to but, not including.

As a contractor, I charged $45.00 for the call and $48.00 an hour, the first hour deducted from the call time.
There are to many special considerations to give you a price here without seeing it.
I can only say it would take from several hours to an extended period due to running wire inside the walls etc. switches, repairing the walls and etc later.

It all depends.
Is there electrical wiring already running to the desired location? Do you already have the light purchased? If you've already purchased the light, will it "fit" where you want it installed (is there any need for any additional mounting brackets or a mounting block)?
If you have the light purchased, and it will work where you want it, a qualified/competent handyman should do the job for $30-$50.
The problem is, for such a small job, most people won't take the time to do it for less than $30.
If you locate a handyman who doesn't have a lot on his plate, or some-one with a good business sense, they should be able to do that in about an hour (ASSUMING THAT THEY DON"T RUN INTO ANY PROBLEMS).
Why I say good business sense is because, sometimes if someone shows up and is professional about the small jobs, they are remembered and called back for the larger ones.

If you are talking about installing a light on an existing box then it depends if he has a minimum charge. I have an $80 minimum and that covers two hours of labor. You need some sort of minimum or you'll go broke driving around doing 15 minutes jobs that won't pay for the gas to get there. If it's part of a larger list of jobs, then it would run anywhere from $25 - $40. If there is no existing wiring then I'd really suggest you get an electrician. I know how to run the wires and set up the box, but that level of work would be best done by a licensed electrician.

I used to work for a handy-man service a few years ago. We charged $50 per hour no matter what the work. If its simply changing out the fixture then it shouldn't take but about 10 or 15 minutes max. You're looking at about $50 average.
As an electrician doing it on the side, maybe a little cheaper.

Assuming you purchased the porch light you wanted, and just need him to do the installation, 45.00.
That's if there was an existing light there. If he has to pull wire you need an electrician. That's going to be more.
Shop it around, there could be a big difference between handymen in your area.

well if there is power already available at the location you wish to install the light I would think 25 bucks would be fair..if not then it will be quite a bit more depending on where he has to bring power from. Simple projects are not always as simple as they seem
