When I bought a hm recently the sellers never told me anything about the basement flooding. When the electrican came over and the power was off only at the outlet of the sump pump for an hour after a storm the basement started to receive water seepage. The sump pump has no known problems and the electrician made a direct route or power to the breaker box but is there anything else I can do to make sure this basement absolutely doesn't flood even in the case of an outage Please help.!!!!!!!!!!!!.

If you install vinyl siding on your house and several years later find some wood destroying pest, like powder post beetles, and need to have the house "tented" will that damage the siding?

We are trying to figure out why the pipe for our basement drain has no trap in it. It is very old and we are replacing the pipe, but since it has no trap in it now, we're wondering if there could be a reason.

My sofa is left in a holiday apartment that is shut up for 6-9 months at a time & although the flat is new, there is always a damp smell and a problem with mould growing on shoes and sometimes wood. The mould doesn't grow on everything but it really seems to like growing on leather. We have to empty the cupboards etc of clothes and wrap & seal them in plastic bags. For obvious reasons we can't leave windows open or leave a de-humidifier running. Can anyone help?

A few months ago, my wife and I noticed a water stain which seemed to be caused by the guest bathroom directly above. We have a Home Warrenty, so we contacted them to have someone come and look at it. They removed a small portion of the ceiling where the stain had occurred and ran the tub faucet (not the shower faucet) for some time and no leaking was detected. Therefore, they just replaced the hole cut out in the ceiling. A few weeks later, a relative was in town to visit and used the shower, we noticed the stain reappeared. If leaking isn't coming from the tub, I can only assume it's coming from the pipe to the shower faucet. Any suggestions or ideas on how to determine where the leak is specifically coming from and how to fix it would be fantastic.

My current stove has a pilot light whereas all previous stoves had electric ignition. Both pilot lights are burning but I still get pretty strong odors so there could be a leak elsewhere I suppose.

Is any and all odor bad?

I bought a townhome in Atlanta GA a couple years back and the developer is now putting the final touches on the subdivision. The problem is that the concrete curbing adjacent to quite a few driveways have cracks and chunks knocked out of them because they were installed prior to the houses being built. The curbing really looks unsightly. The developer (Pulte homes) is having guys come around and just fill some of the cracks with a thin layer of concrete. It was my experience with my own driveway here that this method doesn't work to well. After a few months the concrete cracked and the new filling just popped off the curbing. I don't think that our subdivision should settle for this type of patchwork. I have heard that new concrete doesn't bond to old concrete.......is this true and should we accept this type of repair. Our developer (Pulte Homes) has constantly cut corners and been reluctant to make needed changes in the past, so I can't always trust what they do.

It is a Hoover upright and after so long it cuts out...if you leave it it comes back on!!! I've checked the fault finder in the manual and it hasn't helped...I'm assuming it's overheating for some reason and I've lost my guarantee!!!
