We just moved to this house that has a huge barn in back and I want to clean it out for my horses but it has insulation stored in there and I dont have any other way of getting rid of it we dont have trash pick up days or anything like that around here or a junkyard to take it to, so can it be burnt and if so is there a special way its supposed to be burnt? Its probably about 10 year old insulation

If it is fiberglas insulation, I do not believe it will burn.

You may want to use it for landfill, got any low spots??

NO, don't try it.

Most insulation is fiberglass; glass fibers and they don't burn. A lot of insulation, especially the old one contains asbestos. You can't burn asbestos, you can't even remove it yourself. You have to get a licensed contractor that will work in a clean room environment to do the work. So you can't just pull it out and haul it off to the landfill or the junkyard.

If the barn itself is only 10 years old then the chances are pretty good that it won't contain any asbestos. In that case you can remove it yourself. You will need to hire a construction waste disposal bin to put it into. They will then be able to handle the waste properly.

Waste management companies rent waste disposal trash bins. When you rent one you have to tell them what kind of trash is going to be in it. If you tell them you are using the bin for construction then you can dump the used insulation in the bin and the waste management will know how to safely dispose of it and they will be responsible for disposing of it properly not you.

yes it can, but not advisable. It is fiberglass, more than likely. If it is good condition, try and offer it to your neighbors first.

If you must burn it, start a fire with wood and start laying it on top, slowly. It does not act like it want to burn but it will.

It is also treated to prevent mold & mildew from growing, so stay back and upwind.

If it has asbestos in it, NO. EPA or DEC will charge you with improper hazardous disposal.
