Kitchen faucets are closed either by rubber washers in the two-valve type, or rubber o-rings in the one valve type. These wear out with age, and can easily be replaced.

The hose from the shutoff valve to the sink? There are rubber compression fittings on each end that can harden with age and start to leak. Sometimes just tightening the nut will stop it. The hose could have a hole in or the crimp clamp that holds the hose to the end fitting can corrode away.
