you need to empty out the whole system
tie up the ball cocks in your water tank, so the system doesn't refill, and then turn on every tap in the house to empty the water, make sure you turn and stop cocks or gate valves off, before hand
when the taps run out of water , you are nearly there,
some radiators have a valve on them, so turn these off too
now undo, the fittings on both sides of the radiator, and with someones help, pull the pipes away and stick your finger onto the hole where the pipe connects to, ( both sides)the water will start to gush out , so be quick
now lift the rad off the bracket , and flip it upside down, so the holes are at the top, and the water doesn't keep flowing out
now empty the water into an outside gulley or wherever your rainwater flows into
you are always gonna get an amount of water leaking as you take them off, and just leave a saucepan or something under the valve to catch any water...

now the water won't flow out

theres a valve that opens and shuts it, you have to find that part first (if it's not near the radiator it shud be in the basement) and ummmm radiators are not as light as you think they are, get a friend or two to help you.

Shut down the furnace, then release the pressure through the bleed screw and simply take them off. I did this and replaced them with baseboard heaters.
