Maintenance & Repairs - February 2007

I am trying to put in a new toilet seat, but the old one's bolts are all rusty, and when I try to turn them, they just crumble....what do I do? (Besides call somebody who knows what the heck they are doing?)

okay i have hot water and cold water at every part of my trailer except in the kitchan. The facet in the kitchen and the dishwasher has absoloutly no water coming from my hot water side but water on the side with the cold water ive felt the pip underneith the sink the hot water pipe feels nutral but the cold water is well cold feeling.. at both ends of the house there is both cold and hot running water is it possible that it can be frozen under the trailer in just one spot? or could it be something else. Can pipes be frozen inside a house? I took a blow drier to it for a few min and their was no difference. We had been letting the cold water in the sink drip and only cold water so the pipes would freeze could that be the prob.... HELP

My renters have notified me that the hot water heater is not working very well. After one shower the water turns cold. What is causing this problem?

I have a leaking (not running) toilet. Most of the time after I flush water continues to seep into the bowl without a sound (that's why I say it's not running). I haven't sat there and watched it for hours but I have noticed that usually right after I flush it the water will still flow in leak in but I notice that the amount seems to get less and less over the next few hours and eventually none is leaking in. There are also times that it never stops seeping or I notice it does not leak in at all. About six months ago the problem was much worse and I replaced the flapper that covers the hole where the water from the tank runs into the bowl but I guess this hasn't really solved the issue. This is very frustrating because the water bill was $600 and this has to be the culprit. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have a problem with my furnace, basically the pilot will light, it will run to whatever temperature I set it to but the blower keeps running and blowing cold air into the house and I have to go and shut it off manually beside the furnace and hit the reset button. Any ideas that can help me ?

It is a smell that comes and goes at different times. It smells like a burning ash tray or burning cardboard. In our furnace room you can smell it faintly and we have changed the filters. we have checked under the fridge and stove to see if it was coming from somewhere else and its not. It is most pungent in the enterance way. From the furnace to the entry way there is a cubbie hole that the ducts run thru. Could there be something in there? If so why would it come and go and not be constant.

It sounds like a fan or something, its coming from the back of the freezer part where the cold air comes out, I banged it and it seemed to stop the noise for now but it comes back.Any help would be great...

Our knobs in our tub are completely stripped. The hot and cold knobs work fine but our bath/shower knob won't turn at all. I like taking baths but my husband likes taking showers. I really miss my long baths...lol. Where can I buy the knobs for not much money? Thank you.

My soon to be sister in law poured hot candle wax down the drain, and now that it has hardened, the sink is stopped up, is there any way to get it out without taking the sink apart? Ive tried Drain-o.Please help! Thank you.

We had a roommate for a short time whom we kicked out b/c he was extremely disrespectful (got physical with me, the owner of the house) and he was also doing things he was not supposed to be doing, such as smoking in an asthmatic's home after being told not to!! I need to figure out how to get the stench out of his room so DH and I can work on it this week and weekend!!! Any ideas???? Please help. He's a heavy smoker and the stench is starting to seep through the closed door even though he has been PERMANENTLY removed from our house.
