It sounds like a fan or something, its coming from the back of the freezer part where the cold air comes out, I banged it and it seemed to stop the noise for now but it comes back.Any help would be great...

The fan is getting ready to die.

Either the fan needs oiling (where the stem comes out of the motor), or you need to vacuum, or both. The fan may just be too old to salvage, but a little maintenance usually gives you an extra year or two.

A lot of dust accumulates around the main fan and you need to vacuum both the fan and the cooling fins every six months or so. You also have to oil the fan occasionally, especially once it gets old.

You might also have a freezer fan. That's usually hard to get to but you can figure out where it's at by the sound if it's making a lot of noise. You may have to defrost the freezer and remove a panel to get to it. This rarely needs maintenance, but may need oil or replacing if it's old.

That would be the evaporator fan back in there. If it is a loud squealing noise the bearing are dry. I have found that oiling them works okay. The fan blade could have moved on the shaft and is just rubbing the housing. There could also be a chance of ice build up do to a no defrost problem. I have seen them last for many years if you just get oil on the bronze bearings, that is if it is squealing.

Sounds like the bearing in the fan motor is going. Call a repairman or replace it soon, before it fails completely and you lose all your food.
