We had a roommate for a short time whom we kicked out b/c he was extremely disrespectful (got physical with me, the owner of the house) and he was also doing things he was not supposed to be doing, such as smoking in an asthmatic's home after being told not to!! I need to figure out how to get the stench out of his room so DH and I can work on it this week and weekend!!! Any ideas???? Please help. He's a heavy smoker and the stench is starting to seep through the closed door even though he has been PERMANENTLY removed from our house.

shampoo the carpets. I think most the smell lies in the carpets. Use any kind of deoderizer like Febreze to remove the smell from walls. I think baking soda also removes odors (just like in the fridge). Buy some and sprinkle it around for a day or so.

you can also burn some incense in that room. You can put some potpourri or oranges, lemons, or other fresh smelling scents in that room. Every little bit counts!

I like orange oil cleaners. Mr. Clean makes a good one. Mix according to the directions and wash down all the walls and ceiling. You may have to do this a couple times, changing the cleaning solution as you go, to avoid streaks. It will remove the smoke residue and kill the smell.

For the carpet, rent a machine from your grocery or hardware store. I would add about 1/2 cup of baking soda to the solution when you fill the machine, and thoroughly clean the carpets.

Like the other said, do shampoo the carpets. You might as well have the whole house done or rent it and do it yourself. Another good measure is paint. I'd use kilz on the ceiling since it will take away stains and leave it fresh. Repaint the walls as well. Clean the windows and trim with pledge. You will not have any smoke odors after that and this can be done easily in your timeframe.

Stuff called ...........ozium..........to lazy to find the spray can..Type it in and see what you get..It is the stuff that hospitals used to use...Not an objectionable odor and it does not mask the odor it neutralizes it...can't find it contact me and I'll find the can for the company's name..I am a smoker and it works..Tell your visitors that you would prefer that they don't smoke in your house..If they don't like it they can sit outside on a stool and talk through the window..I am a smoker and I would not think of smoking in your house. I think it is damned rude.........!

You may want to consider steam cleaning the carpet, furniture, etc. Also, febreze fabric spray may help. Open up the windows to air out for a bit. If he had been there a long while...you may even want to consider redecorating the room (including repainting).

Get a Tom Cat and lock it up in your house for 3 days. Allow it to spray in all corners of the home. You will not smell the smoke anymore. I promise!
