My washing machine stopped its spinning action last night. It turns on and water comes out into the bucket like it is supposed too, only now the center piece does not move. What might be wrong with it?

A neighbour of mine recently had a very bad kitchen fire which although it was extinguished in less than one hour, has left the rest of the house smelling of smoke. We have tried cleaning it thoroughly and used many forms of air freshener but it is still there can any of you guys out there offer any tips that may help solve this problem?

We recently bought a new home..everything has been updated in the past year.
EVERYTHING IS NEW.
Now wintertime. the roof is leaking in 4 diffrent areas!
what should I do? Im in NY state.
The insurance company wont pay unless its ice damage.
But its ice thats doing it.

I was told there isnt any ice and water shield under it, Is that a code for NY STATE?

Is the construction company liable for it?
It consists of a "25ftx 3ft and maybe 2 feet thick" of ICE,and water is backig up behind it.
what can i use to help remove it?or prevent it from comming back!!
help...our new home is getting ruined.!!

The bottom 18" of my garage door frame has gone rotten. I could cut the rotten bit off and "graft" another piece of wood on in place but that would end up going rotten to eventually.

I had this idea of using some Upvc, (the stuff they make windows and conservatories out of), but I can't find any information on standard section sizes and profiles.

Ideally I need 70mm x 70mm with sharp square corners. It would be better if it was tubular, (like drain pipe).

Is it possible to get this?

Does anyone know a website where this informationis available?

This is a two part question.
My home has a Bryant Quietline furnace, you can tell its very old. It runs quite a long time to heat my 750sq foot home and I don't keep the heat very high, it just works hard to do a very little.
For savings and saftey reasons I would like to replace it soon.
First questions, what size btu unit would I be looking at for about 750sq feet? The home is very well insulated in the attic, but has windows that are getting close to needed replaced. I would think that 45,000 3 ton or 70,000 4 ton would be good since the home is fairly small. What would you recommend?
I just glanced at http://www.acdirect.com/goodman_ruud_gas_furnaces_.php for prices and those units run about $800 on that site, is about what I should expect?

2. I've questioned the duct work since I moved in. Heres why. The house is built on a concrete slab. The duct work appears to consist of areas left open within the concrete slab to allow air flow. Hard to describe,

I have a Craftsman 1/2 hp Garage Door Opener. When I press the remote the door just click, Click 5 times and doesn't move. When I use the button on the wall it works, but when the door reach the buttom it goes back up agian (I have to hold the button to wait for the door goes all the way down, otherwise the door just stop as soon as I release the button). If I keep pressing the wall button after the door reach the bottom, the door just gives a click click sound without any movement. I have to wait few minutes before the button works again. I installed this garage door opener only 2 years ago. I tried to disenage the garage door just to check if the chain move, but didn't. Any idea. Thanks.

I have a garage with perfectly good vinyl siding, except the color is really ugly. I asked the guy at the paint store if it was possible to paint vinyl, and he just looked at me like I was an idiot and said something like "Why would you do that?"

My question... can you paint vinyl siding? Do you need to prime it first? Do you have to use a special paint?

Room thermostat light indicator turned on, but nothing else seems to run but just maybe the boiler? We went up to the attic and heard boiler was running. Should we expect the pump to kick in before we can see hot air circulating? Odd thing, we noticed our downstairs centralheater run a bit warmer than usual when we set the thermalstat downstair to be 65 degree.

The area below and behind one of my outlets is almost always warm - could this be a wiring problem? The outlet only occasionally has something plugged in and turned on. I'm assuming wiring because of the proximity to the outlet.

I'm worried about potential fire hazard. Am I overly concerned? Is tearing the wall open the only way to figure where this warmth is coming from?

I have a screen door (metal with see through fly screen) and in the hotter seasons (summer etc.) the door squeaks when i open it, to my knowledge it squeaks against the floor under it as the floor is scratch (Visible) but i cooler seasons it seems to disappear. Does anyone have the cause or solution to this problem, it screeches very loudly and hurts my ears when opening and closing it, like scratching on a chalkboard, nerve racking.

we need to install recess light in our main room, the roof is slopping. the electrician suggest eye ball light, as it is not possible to put recess light that gives you straight light. he says if we install regular recess light that will give us inclined light.
we want to have light that comes straight down.
also, the reason for not him putiing straight light is that, if we want that kind of light we should have done it during the constuction of our house.
if anybody has ideas regarding this please let us know.(the main room has slope in 3/4 th area and 1/4th part is double height ceiling)

Our bathroom pipes freeze and we now know to watch the weather and leave a small amount of water draining from the sink and the shower. I am concerned that even with the water on that the shower drain could still freeze and then the house would be flooded. What is the probability that the drain would freeze if the hot and cold water are left on in the shower? I know the real issue is fixing this problem that we are having with the bathroom, but that is another story.

I've tried mold and mildew resistant paint and it still comes back! What can I do? Tile is out of the question, the bathroom is too small. The walls are just concrete and paint. Please Help!
