There are a few things to check, which also depends on how handy you are.
1) If it is a gas dryer, is the gas supply on?
2) Does the igniter element glow bright red when dryer cycle is started? If not it needs replacement.
3) If the igniter turns on ( it should continuously cycle on and off in an attempt to ignite the gas ) but no gas is allowed to flow, there is a bad solenoid for the gas valve.
4) If gas does flow and ignites for a few seconds but does not remain lit after igniter shuts off, a temperature sensor located in the burner needs replacement. The sensor basically tells the gas valve to continue flowing gas since it senses that the gas is now burning and not free flowing.

Try these steps out then call a appliance parts supplier for the part which takes about 5-10 minutes to replace.

I had the same happen to my dryer and I only cost about $10 to repair. The appliance parts and repair center I go to actually helped me troubleshoot it over the phone and sold me the part the had in stock so I can do it myself. They may not have made the $90 for the service call, but they earned my customer loyalty and I have since gone to them for other parts and purchased my new washer and dryer from them.

in addition to the possibility of the heating element if it is an electric dryer check the fusebox and the 220 plug for power.

if you have a multimeter and know how to use it check te plug to make sure its hot the 220 line has 2 hots and a ground so make sure they are both on.
my friends house flooded and the repairman said to buy a new dryer with the insurance because the heating element was bad when really the breaker went and all it needed was the 220 plug rewired. his tumbled, had the courtesy light, but didnt heat as well.
he ended up returning the dryer and used the cash to help pay his deductable.

The dryer has a heating element in it you will have to replace the element. Also while your at it you should check your dryer hose that leads to the outside of your home. It may be clogged and it can be a fire hazard... good luck

If no heat from glow bar replace thermal fuse. The dryer will run but there will be no heat from glow bar. For gas dryer This is an easy repair you can find good info on this subject on repairclinic.com it will show you locations mof all mentioned parts and names in good illustrations.

a dryer runs on 120 volts, but needs 240 volts to power the heating element. if you have fuses, replace the 2) 30 amp cartridge fuses for about $5.00. one of them is blown. do them both, so the "good" one doesn't blow in the next month or two. if you have circuit breakers, flip them both off then back on. if the dryer still doesn't heat, check the heat selector switch on the back splash, it could have been switched to medium or air fluff. hope this helps, good luck.

Depending on whether you have an electric or a gas dryer, either the pilot light went out if gas, or your heat coil is burnt out if electric.
