I am installing a simple light fixture in the ceiling of my living room. This is an old house and the box in the ceiling only has 2 wires coming out of it (white & black). I don't see a ground wire or a screw to attache the fixture's ground wire. This is an old house and the fixture that is in it now has a ground wire that is wrapped around the fixture's chain. What should I do? Just leave the ground wire alone or wrap it around something?

There is a slightly large hole behind my door because the door knob lock created it. (Yes, the door stopper is broken.) There are also small holes because of nails and tacks that were stuck in the wall several times and then removed.
How do I fix these problems.
Thanks for replies.

I tried nail polish remover- that used to work well on removing sticky glue from price tickets on plastic CD boxes- but that didn't work on the metal surface of my new food processor unit.

I have left some carton folders on a concrete window shelf for a few days, and once trying to remove them it felt like they were glued on! As I forcibly removed them, a thin layer of paper remained... It might be due to the cold outside. Is there anything else I can do apart from scraping them off bit by bit?!

Water started filling up to the brim, so I had to cut off the water supply really fast so it wouldn't overflow....now the water has drained and I plunged, and I'm pretty sure it's unclogged. But when I turn the water back on and flush again, it still keeps filling up to the brim! Does that mean it's still clogged? I'm pretty sure it isn't...I hope someone can help with this, my landlord will take his sweet time getting someone out here to fix this and I don't want it to be days before I get this toilet working again! Help if you can...thanks!!

My house is cedar and I know that I need to clean it, but I am a new homeowner and not sure how to go about doing this. I am afraid to use a pressure washer because the outside siding is cedar, but I don't know if I am being silly.....Help!

I need a plunger for the outside of my house. The maintenace guy who plunged it before used a long stick with a 4 inch disc on the end. What are these called, and where can I buy one? I've search the net a bit and can't seem to find one, so a link would be helpful.

thanks.

I purchased a new manufactured home last Fall. From the start, and after carefully adjusting the float, etc...my 2 toilet stools will both run a little water maybe 2-3 times a day. It is as if somebody starts to press the lever and then stops. There is no other leak and it just happens for 5 seconds and then completely stops. It isn't really losing water to speak of, but it is a little unnerving to hear them do this. I have never had this issue in the many years I have dealt with stools.
Any ideas? Do I just have inferior guts in the toilets? Should I just replace them? Mainly, I just need to know if anyone else has experienced this and what it is.

My sink with the disposal drains very slowly. When I do the dishes, It won't drain fats enough, so I run the disposal, it drains but when I shut it off, it spits the water back out and fills the sink up again. Anything I can do? Anything like Drano that will free this up?

what's the best, easy, or correct way to trim the hinges layout on a new door slab? I was told to draw the layout on the side of the door and chistle it. Any special tool I can use to get this done without this hassle?

We recently purchased a KitchenAid smoothtop convection oven and one day out of the blue one of the elements broke. It no longer gets hot or warm for that matter. The other three elements work fine. Any idea why or how to fix?

A light switch for our porch lamp gave me a mild electric (non-static) shock when I touched it today, and when I turn on the porch light it makes a loud sound and flickers. What is this about and what can I do?

Part of the regs is that walls on the corridor (escape route) must give 30 mins escape for fire (take 30 mins before they burn). Do new walls have to be built or do they need to be lined. If so with what and is this very expensive?
