Some of these answers????
Not plumbers but then neither am I.
The cold water supply is fed from the mains and the hot water is from the tank. The cold feed has a much higher pressure than the tank feed and so pushes itself up to the tank feed pipe causing your tank to fill up and overflow.
This MAY be the reason but there are several possibilities.
Best to call a plumber to investigate.

I have this problem sometimes after we have run a bath. What happens is that the ball **** in the cold water storage tank is very old and when the tank has been drained down quite a bit due to the bath being run as it refills even though the valve rises fully it does not shut off the flow of water to the water tank. What i do is go into the loft and move it by hand. Will eventually purchase a new one when i get time. Hope this helps

Hi
My guess is that the pressure in the incoming supply is reduced by the washing machine. The ball valve in the top tank is probably old and infirm (like me) So while the pressure is lower the ball valve is less workable.
I would suggest you get the top tank ball valve changed. It costs about £2 to buy but the plumber will want about £60 to fit it, so if you have any other jobs to do get them done as well and have your monies worth.

Sounds like there's a blockage somewhere, you need to get a plumber out to have a look at it.
