My roommate and I are having a little debate over this. Does it waste more energy to turn the lights off and turn them back on 15 minutes later (like it would if it was your computer), or to just leave them on?

My dishwasher was only used for one year before it developed a problem. It got tossled around in a move and since then it doesn't drain. It sure will fill up just fine, but it doesn't drain out. Any ideas? Websites that may help? I'm too poor to shell out a hundred bucks or better to get it fixed and I'm too lazy to do dishes by hand so any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

My dryer vent runs from the first floor, down to the basement and over to the right to the outside vent opening. The vent pipe has been leaking water at the first and second elbow.

I need to repair prefinished wood surfaces on some cabinets. I have a product called softwax made by fastcap company. You use the different color wax sticks to fill-in the scaps and scraches then buff smooth. I ha ve been able to use the product to help repair, Yet the scapes are still visible. Does anyone have any expercienced advice?

Water is collecting in my laundry room around my washer and hot water heater. Every plumber I call insists its the water heater without even coming out here. 750+ is a big bullet to bite. The water on the ground is cold, but the only place it is pooled up is under the water heater. My question, if my hot water heater was leaking would the water not be warm/hot? The heater is 15 years old. Thanks

Should a ceiling fan rotate clockwise or counterclockwise in the winter?

I was thinking about painting the entire interior of my house by myself (with my wife's help). We HATE painting and to do two walls it took us one whole day!

We have a 3 bedroom house with vaulted ceilings, so it is going to take at least 4 weekends. The problem is my wife and I want to try for our first baby in January, and with the holidays and vacations, we don't have the time or energy to paint the house in less than 3 months. I don't want to paint when she gets pregnant, so it needs to be done asap.

My friend (a painter) offered to paint my house. I will supply him wth all the paint and stuff and he will bring 2 of his co-workers (all painters) and have it done in one weekend.

Should I just pay my friend $800 to paint our house interior? Should I just bite the bullet and pay the money so we don't have to stress over it?

I want to be sure all costs and legal requirements are covered. I live in Ohio, if that helps, and am hoping to get a metal roof. Any information or warnings would be helpful.
