Check their credentials (Ohio construction license is active, they have liability insurance and workmen's compensation coverage, they have no unresolved issues on-file with Ohio's state dept of construction/contractor's license.)
Ask for current references of recently completed roofing jobs. Talk to those customers, ask what kinds of problems & how they were resolved, would they recommend the contractor, are they getting any referral bonuses (you never know.) Go inspect the roofing job.
Ask for supplier names (for shingles, roofing, etc.) Make sure the contractor pays bills on-time and in full.
How many metal roofing jobs have they done? What training have they received? Go inspect houses with that type of roofing.
City/county roofing permits pulled? Cost? You might want to talk with the building dept about any problems with the contractors you interview.
Tear-off & disposal of old roof. Included in price? Does your state or city have any recycling fees on top of disposal costs?
Repairs to existing roof and sheathing. Any allowance in base price? What if repairs exceed allowance - you want to approve before fixing.
Can you get a rubber or butyl membrane installed under the metal panels, to isolate noise from hail or heavy rain on your roof, so the noise is not heard inside your house?
Ask for detailed explanation about roof installation around skylights, chimney, vent stacks, valleys, abutment where a vertical wall meets a roof plane. Ask how flashing and waterproofing is installed at those locations.
How is the roof ridge installed?
Make sure drip edges are installed on gutter edges and along eaves.
Are you keeping or replacing your gutters?
How long will the job take? When can they start?
What is the warranty policy? Materials & workmanship.
What safety equipment & training is used?

also ask questions about the clean up cost, if you will have to pay for disposal of old roofing materials, how long it will approximately take, if they have their own insurance if they get hurt on the job at your house, what time will they start in the morning until what time at night they will stop, how many people will be working for them, also how much experience they have. hope this helps!!! good luck

make sure that they properly go around all of your vents and skylights...
That could be a disaster when the rain comes(if it comes, I'm form Canada)
And make sure that they properly check for roof rot!!!
Good luck, my dad is a metal roofer, and says that there is nothing better than a metal roof, it'll last you a lifetime!!

I'd ask them for a list of some of their previous customers. Then call or go see them and ask their opinions about the company.
