Water is collecting in my laundry room around my washer and hot water heater. Every plumber I call insists its the water heater without even coming out here. 750+ is a big bullet to bite. The water on the ground is cold, but the only place it is pooled up is under the water heater. My question, if my hot water heater was leaking would the water not be warm/hot? The heater is 15 years old. Thanks

Sounds like time for a new water heater. Get at it quickly before it really lets go and you have a bigger flood on your hands. You'll quickly chew up the $750 in repairs later if you don't!
Have you considered doing the job yourself? It isn't a difficult job to install a water heater.

The temp. of the water on the floor would depend on where it's coming from. If it's, indeed, coming from the water heater and the rest of the house has hot water available, then yes, it should be hot or at least warm. If, however, it's leaking from one of the fittings in the line that feeds cold water into the water heater to be made into hot water, then it would be cold. Or if it's coming from one of the valves or hoses from behind the washer and there's a low spot around the water heater where the water just naturally puddles up, then it would probably be cold. Seems sort of hard to believe that you can't see the leak coming from wherever, if there's that much of it.

You probably do need a new hot water heater,it being 15 yrs old. However it may be a relief valve.Call acontractor that comes recommended $750 is not unfair,it costs money to be in business.

15 years old it is costing you more in energy costs than it would to replace even if it was not leaking. The water would still be warm coming from the taps, but the water pooling has time to cool by the time you see it. When you have it replaced have a pan installed under it to catch any leaks.

Water heaters should be changed every TEN YEARS, and the reason for this is they tend to rust after many years. Without seeing your heater, I'd also predict its your water heater.

Best way to verify it is, take a flashlight and look on the underside of the water heater...if its rusty, thats the reason.
