It's a Bosch "frost-free" fridge bought 9 years ago. The dial is set to 1 but it doesn't make any difference.....

It sounds like the thermostat isn't working right. Find a local handyman from the newspapers or Pennysaver magazine. Nine years is not an old fridge. You should have a few years left in it. You could also try a company that rebuilds old fridges and see if they can recommend anything or anybody to fix it.

Your cold control is defective. If you are handy, you can get the
Model no and bop on down to the appliance parts place and get
one for less than $30. Go home and unplug the fridge and take
out a few screws to get to the control and replace it. Next time
dont buy a foreign or off brand appliance. Stick with the ones
where the parts a readily available like Kenmore, GE, or
Frigidaire. Forget the rest. Dont pay more than about $1000. for
a fridge - they are loaded with electronics and just time bombs.

Maybe your thermostat is bad. This replacement part is alot cheaper then replacing the whole fridge, like some other idiots suggest, and a fridge should last more than nine years.

Perhaps it is just getting old - I would consider having it recycled and replace it with a new one. Fridges usually last 5-15 years so 9 is not that bad an innings.
Or perhaps you could try getting the internal thermostat or thermometer repaired if you think this will cost less.

Please ignore the answers you've been givine prior to mine. anyone who doesnt know your situation and says its "broke, junk it", is not playing with a full deck.

Refrigerators freeze food because of a few reasons...first, door seals might not be on properly or worn out...check the seal on the doors from top to bottom. Secondly, if you have a refrigerator and freezer cold control setting at opposite ends you will cause it to freeze or not cool properly.

If your freezer has five levels to chose on the knob, place it in the CENTER selection.....ie. 1 2 3 4 5 (chose 3) and same for refrigerator...if you have seven or nine settings...always set in middle......then...wait 24 hours to stabilize the temps.

Also try pulling the unit out from the wall and give it a good cleaning. Gently clean all around those coils on the back or behind the kickplate. This has worked for me.

You just need to defrost or a new thermostat which is a lot cheaper than junking the whole thing
