I think my home remodel subcontractor is using an inferior grade of plywood for the subflooring. How can I judge the quality? It seems to be thin and has missing pieces.

I have an unfinished basement. I only use it for laundry, and my computer... and i dont have a problem with it being colder than my upstairs. I was told that opening up my vents down here would help with my heating costs because heat rises, adn it would help with the rest of the house. What do you think? Agree? If so, why. Disagree? Why not? Please let me know what you think.

I have a dry that sometimes will come on but over heats. Is it the heating element or should I just get a new dryer.

My (clothes) dryer puts out air, but no heat, so my clothes do not dry. And wouldn't you know it, our service contract just ran out. Can I do any troubleshooting here before spending a fortune having it repaired by a pro? If you know anything about repair, I'd be really grateful for your help. Thanks.

I have one round handle for hot and a seperate one for cold.
The handle for hot water is loose and can actually be pulled off the wall. I've used pliers to try and turn the rod sticking out from the wall but it doesn't stop the water completly. I bought 2 new rounds handles but they don't seem to fit the rod sticking out from the wall?
What can I do. I can't afford to call a plumber.
thanks

I live in the North East. When ever we have a real driving rain (mind you, it has to be pretty heavy), the water comes in and soaks my besroom ceiling. I've heard of ice dams or ice heaves and someone told me that that's probably why; there's a space between shingles that fromed from freezing and melting. I'm new to the region so I'm not too sure about that. I've looked in the attic and can't tell where the water's coming from. I suspect the vents above the master bath. My roof has a good pitch and 3 stories up in the back so I don't really want to crawl around up there and don't want to ask my husband to do it either. What's the best way to find the source of the leak and is there anything I can do, short of hiring a professional ('cause I'm broke), to patch it? HELP!!!

My furnace makes this loud buzzing sound, like something is vibrating really bad. but it only happens for about a minute before the fan shuts down. Its starts out as a slight vibration sound, and gets gradually louder and louder untill it just shuts down. Then, it is fine the next time that it kicks on again, right up until about a minute before it kicks back off. Any ideas?

Every year when the temp drops we seem to have a mouse problem. I have tried all the mouse traps out there but it's not working this year. We have 2 dogs and a young daughter so I do not want to use poison. Can anyone recommend anything else? Thanks!
