I have one round handle for hot and a seperate one for cold.
The handle for hot water is loose and can actually be pulled off the wall. I've used pliers to try and turn the rod sticking out from the wall but it doesn't stop the water completly. I bought 2 new rounds handles but they don't seem to fit the rod sticking out from the wall?
What can I do. I can't afford to call a plumber.
thanks

It sounds like the washer inside the valve is worn out.
If you are able to get at the valve its self you can do the following.
1. Shut off the main valve where the water comes into the house.
2. Open a couple of taps to drain the pressure out of the system.
3. Open the tap one full turn, and then unscrew and remove the top of the valve.
4. Check the rubber washer at the end of the valve stem, it will probably look worn or it may be missing altogether.
4. Take the valve stem to your hardware store and have them select the correct washer for the valve.
5. Put the new washer on the valve stem and reassemble the tap.
6. Close all the taps previously opened and turn on the main water valve.

That should correct your leaky tap.

The leak you describe is in all probability comeing from the bathe diverter- there is consistent water tension on the faucet if it have been the nice and comfortable or chilly it could drip- The pipe going as much as the bathe head, holds water, and is in all probability leaking lower back - in case you agree directly to restoration it, do all of it - close off the Water furnish- drain the faucet and bathe head, given which you have a minor leak you may in all probability replace the Rubber washers, basically, no longer the Stems, that are costly- fairly basic pastime- guard the Chrome in case you are attempting this, via putting a rag around the Nut till now using the wrench. in case you do no longer understand something approximately faucet fix, purchase a e book or pass to Do it your self dot com.

the rod sticking out of the wall can be replaced, it should have a nut at the bottom of it. just remove it and you can get a new one, just remember to turn the main valve off before you start
