I've had ventless logs for yrs in my home & the only thing I have to do is keep the dust off the logs & gasoline line that feeds the fire. To maintain this I turn off my flame & turn off completely. Then wait 30 minutes or so, & use my vacuum clean nozzle w/brush & vacuum as I do the seats in my car.
Then turn on pilot light & ignite.

A fire indoors without a flue will kill you. I'd call that high maintenance. You must be leaving something out of the question.
