It really depends on where you live. How much Smog is in your area? How much Dust?

I would suggest you ask one of your local heating and AC guys. They would have some useful advice for your area.

set the timer to 250 or 500 hr and check the filter....is it dirty?
if it aint dirty dont change it

once every 6 months or so should be plenty
