I have a Rainsoft Apollo Classic V.2 water softener that I don't have an owner's manual to. This is my first day using it because I had to set up the electrical line (which I did a week after the plumber left, or else I'd ask him this question). Anyway, I don't know how to set it up to manually regenerate. I followed the instructions on the unit, which said to turn the timer dial two clicks clockwise, but it wasn't very clear what was meant by "clicks", so I'm not sure if I turned it correctly or too many times or what. It doesn't seem like anything is happening except that water is draining through the drain. I'm not sure whether or not that means it's working correctly. Can someone tell me what to look for to know if this is working correctly or, if not, what I'm supposed to do to manually regenerate? It's not that the unit is broken; it's just that I've never used a water softener before and I don't know what to expect to see happen when I try to manually regenerate.

I have birds coming in the chimney. The fireplace is walled off. Can I chase them out myself before I cover the chimney or do I need a pro?

The expansion tank to my well vibrates every few hours - probably when the pump goes on. This causes the pipes inside the house to vibrate also. I seem to have good water pressure. Any idea what is causing this?

I'm removing some old wooden screens from my porch, and some of the screws don't want to turn. Would WD-40 on them help, like it does on screws in metal? Or would it make the wood swell and make the screws even tighter?

I want to get my father a drill bit sharpener for his birthday, as he said he wants one. I really want to get him the Drill Doctor 750 model, but it is quite expensive. I did find a Neiko sharpener and it is only $40. Can anyone out there tell me if the Neiko sharpener would be a nice substitute? I will get him the Drill Doctor if I can get a good deal, maybe on ebay. But if I can't, will the Neiko suffice? Or should I just consider another gift if I can't get the Drill Doctor? I would really appreciate your insight as I have no idea about these things. Thanks.

The lease states the water isn't potable, so please do not suggest I sue my landlord. Besides, the property is worth the hassle.

Up until yesterday, our well was fine. Then the circuit breaker failed, and the well guy replaced it, but stated the well was almost dry. (there's plenty of pressure now, however...)

There is a new well at the back or the property. It has not had a pump put in it yet.
The well guy said he was scheduled to come back in a couple weeks to add a pump and replace our existing system with a new one, fed by the new well.
Unfortunately, the water from the new well smells like sulpher. (the water from the existing well doesn't, although all our neighbors water smells like sulpher too).
Is there something I can ask the well guy to do before he replaces, or seals everything up? I'm willing to spend a few bucks, but not hundreds.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for reading!

I have two white wires and a red wire coming from the ceiling and a black wire and a white wire from the fan. Should I connect the white wire from the fan to both white from the ceiling and black from fan to red from ceiling?

The flap that opens up to let the water out when the toilet flushes gets stuck and does not fall back down after the water level goes down. As a result the water continues to run until you push the flap down manually so the toilet will refill.

Does anyone have any suggestions about how to correct this problem?

I've tried drano and drano like products but nothing has worked. I'm pretty handy but my plumbing experience is limited to changing out hardware. Is there a tool I can rent/buy or another method that I don't know of. Not many tasks around the house are too big for me and I'm trying to save money

There are 2 coats of marine spar varnish on the black metal door threshold at my front door that was applied by renters 2 years ago. The varnish is starting to blister but it is difficult to peel off. I tried Goop Off and paint thinner and neither did anything.

Just wondering-been searching for some kind of community outreach program. I'm a single mom soon to be going through a divorce & got stuck with the house. The roof needs LOTS of work done-- it's literally pouring in --like a 5 gal bucket every 3 hours. We're having a horrible rain storm.
Anybody aware of any programs that are willing to help? Seems like everybody I have called, you have to be a senior-60 or older. Thanks in advance for any input!

My house is 3 years old, and all of the paint on the walls will peel off if knicked. In the bathroom the paint is coming off the walls really easy. But there are a few spots where its a little harder to get off. I am trying to get all of the paint peeled off so we can redo it, and redo it right. The contractor that did our house used very cheap paint. Also the texture is staying on the wall, no sheetrock is showing or coming off.

We bought a new house and the dishwasher just kind of falls forward when you open the door. It is not attached anywhere. I assume you attach it to the Granite counter, but don't know the right way to do it. Also, has developed another issue where the power goes out when it runs. I assume that is related to the fact that is not mounted properly.
Thanks!
