how big are the holes? if they are just pinholes, then you get a container of spackle and a spackle knife and just scrape it over. If they are fist size holes, then you probably want to square it off and buy some scrap sheetrock. cut it larger than the hole and then score it on the non faced side so that it is the same size as the hole. Then you snap it, but dont score the front and tear the sheet rock from the paper and keep the middle part in the hole and spackle the whole thing over the hole. i saw them do it on TV once.

Fill in those cracks and holes! This is the fun part, because it’s also the easiest. Get some light weight spackle and a putty knife and just like you're putting a smear of cream cheese on your bagel, fill the hole with the spackle and scrape away any excess. Spackle can be used on most small holes and cracks. If you have any nails sticking out of the wall, you can either pull them out with the claw (back end) of a hammer, or countersink (meaning hammer it in with a tool called a nail set) them below the wall’s surface leaving behind a small hole that you simply spackle and you’re good to go!

small holes simply smear the paste with a putty knife over the holes..till level....let dry 24 hrs or so and redo again if needed...repeat drying and then sand slighty till smooth..
for larger holes need to use a gauze type material to fill over hole then putty and do this a few times as needed then dry and sand as above.
