I have installed a Mr. Steam unit in a new shower that has been tiled with travertine. The place that I purchased the new unit from says it's because I used travertine instead of porcelain and it takes too long for the tile to heat up. I've been in steam showers before and they have used travertine without any problems. The unit is double the power that is required for the size of the shower and I have a glass door that is sealed properly for a steam unit. Any suggestions? I believe it may be the actual steam unit but am looking for other possible answers.

My electric usage on my bill is more than double from what it was last year. I have not run my AC at all this last month. I don't have any extra things from last year, in fact, I replaced my electric oven with a new model.

Mud Dobbers are a wasp that builds it's mud home under overhangs or anyplace where it's out of the elements on the outside of your home. They are easy to knock down with a stick, like a broom, however they leave a stain where they are attached. What's the best way to clean that stained surface? I have stucco.

Just had solid oak wood floor put down, but its got several creaky patches. The guy who installed it seemed very thorough - took up and then refixed the floorboards first to ensure firm foundation for wood floor....then put down underlay.

Is creaking to be expected? Any remedies?

My hotpoint aquarius wma 35 will do a wash cycle, and drain but will not kick in to do the spin.
I think it may be a block filter, but do not know where it is. (had exact same problem before and ex husband fixed it, did not see what he was doing).
Any advice would be much appreciated.

I thought the lightbulb blew, so I tried changing the bulb, but that didn't work...tested the bulbs and they were fine. Figured out that our computer is on the same circuit and it isn't turning on either. Changed the fuses but it is still not resolving the issue. Does anyone out there know what else might be causing the lack of power?

Theoretically if the air conditioner is not leaking gas, does it still requires refilling? If so how often should it be refilled if used every night? I asked because every 1-2 year my air conditioner would start to leak water and become not cold anymore. Every time the A/C technician comes, he always wants to refill the refrigerant gas and charge extra for it. So my question is, what is the typical lifespan of the gas and if it requires constant refilling, how often a normal situation would be? I believe that my problem is caused by blockage causing water leakage and preventing the air from becoming cold. And if it’s really a leakage, then he should have offered to get the leak repaired and not simply recharging it every time he comes. So why does he always wants to refill something that isn’t the problem? Is he being playing some unethical trick at his clients? By the way, I’m living in a tropical high humidity climate, so if that means anything…

The gray thing that brings in water started to spray water all over the place, then the tank won't fill up with water. What can I do? I can't afford a plumber.

I bought 2 qualities of doussier 1/2 inch. wood floor and had it glued down on concrete slab in my new house. The problem is the stupid contractor glued the (cheaper) lower quality in the living room and the higher quality floor in the bedrooms, while he was supposed to do the other way around! Should I tell him to remove the floor and glue the proper one? Will the result be satisfactory? (My other options are: a) install a new floor on top, having height trouble with doors etc and b) leave it as it is... :(
I would appreciate any contribution!

ps it's 10 days since the floor is installed

I have a squirrel (or squirrels) in an inaccessible part of my attic. I can hear it running around above the 2nd floor ceiling in my 50-year-old cape-cod-style house. I have two small attics with sloping ceilings on the sides of the bedrooms upstairs, if you can imagine what I mean. However, there is apparently another small attic above the 2nd floor ceiling, inaccessible from the inside.

A few months ago, I heard one up there. I borrowed an extension ladder, removed the triangular gable vent at one end of the house (looks like this: http://www.architecturaldepot.com/pc/FTRLV48X12/gable-vent-triangle/), and found that the screen previously installed was inadequate; an animal that could fit through the aluminum louvers could easily push the screen out of the way because it was not very secure. I installed new metal screening and stapled it in.

Squirrels are back. I have no idea how they're getting in. How do I get rid of them? Do those high pitch sound things work?

This table has a cherry finish on it. A hot dish was placed on a towel on the table and when removed, it left a white spot. After two weeks the white spot is still there. How do I get rid of it without having to refinish the table?

My father-in-law lives with my wife and I. I usually keep the thermostat set at 68F, but he is always cold so I find myself bringing it up to 70-74. You would think that this would satisfy him but no. He always wants it higher than it is, (did I mention he lives here for free?) Now I'm not un-reasonable, I understand that some people need more heat than others but I know he is playing a game with us. One time I saw him looking at the wrong number which read 76, but it was actually only 68 in there, and I asked him if he was cold and he said: "no way, 76 is nice and toasty for me, not like you 70 degree cave men". So you see where i'm coming from? Im putting a separate thermostat with the controls in my room, but I want to leave the non-functioning one there and have it read higher than it is so he wont notice, and he will feel "toasty warm". Thanks in advance- hope you don't think I'm mean but you have no idea who I'm dealing with...he lives to make myself and my wife suffer
