I have installed a Mr. Steam unit in a new shower that has been tiled with travertine. The place that I purchased the new unit from says it's because I used travertine instead of porcelain and it takes too long for the tile to heat up. I've been in steam showers before and they have used travertine without any problems. The unit is double the power that is required for the size of the shower and I have a glass door that is sealed properly for a steam unit. Any suggestions? I believe it may be the actual steam unit but am looking for other possible answers.

I would request another one, I would ask the place that you purchased it from to show you in writing where is says you have to use porcelain instead of travertine to make it work properly.

Good Luck
