We have The Dependable ninety-two Janitrol furnace. The pilot light will not ignite and the blower also doesn't turn on. We are hoping to fix it ourselves. It's also the old 60,000 BTU's
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

The furnace is 92% efficent and we also have an electronic ignitor.
The Furnace is fairly new (we just moved into the house so we are unsure about age - no paper work for furnace at all)

thanks again for any help.

Go to the furnace and remove the outer panel so you can see the burner compartment. Be sure to leave the air handler door on so the shut off switch will not be activated.
Turn up thermostat for heat. If the combustion motor comes on then check inside the burner compartment see if the ignitor is working. If its a glow bar type it will begin glowing orange as it heats. If its a spark ignition pilot then make sure the spark is striking the pilot assembly. Also verify no loose rust is preent around the pilot, this will cause the spark to ground in odd locations causing it not to light.
If the ignitor does not come on then turn off power to the unit & find the vacuum hose on teh combustion motor & verify it is still attached.
If it is a spark ignition pilot & the ignitor is working & the pilot lights then the problem is with the flame sensor. If its newer furnace it will be a rod with 2 wires that go back to the control board, be sure they are not loose. If connected then be sure the pilot has a strong blue flame, if so the sensor is bad, if not clean the pilot.
If the ignitor is a glow bar then if it starts to glow orange but the burner never lights then the ignitor is bad and will need to be replaced. They range in price from $ 50 - $ 100 depending on where purchased. You will need the make and model number of the unit. The info will be on the data plate/sticker in the burner area on the bottom or side panel. Be sure to turn off power to unit before removing anything, 120 volts to unit.

We have an 18 year old Janitrol Furnace/Air unit. We came home yesterday afternoon and noticed it was warm and stuffy. I check the thermostat. and it registered 85 . I turned it down. I noticed I did not hear it kick on. I went to the basement and there was nothing. I usually get a small red light that blinks with a code if there is a problem.. There is nothing. I put in a new thermostat last night. I switched the unit off from the electrical box. Switched it back on. and still nothing. I also tried the heater part and still nothing. We just had a new heat exchange put in year before last, and a new igniter put in last year. It is like it is not getting any juice. The only other time this happened was when we mistakenly turned of the gas switch at the top of the stairs instead of the light. That switch is on. We have poured much money into this and do not have money for a costly repair or replacement. I was just on "Just Ask" and paid to have someone help me but after several hours did not get into the issue.
