Hi, we have just moved in to a new house, which has had a recent DPC. However in the living room, on the inside of an external wall we have noticed a damp patch...about 1.2m above floor level. There are no pipes in the wall. It is wet to touch and paint is left on your fingers.

Is it possible that heavy rain is penetrating the wall? what do i need to do to fix it?

Any advice is much appreciated!

Thanks!

Just took out an old, OLD shower curtain, it was screwed into the wall and now we've got these little things still in the wall. They're like fasteners or something. They start out straight and then are like riveted or grooved to hold the screw in. How do we remove these from the wall, without making a huge hole? We were trying needle nose pliers, but that makes a hole.

There is no head on the screw and it is snapped off flush. I need to remove it to detach an outdoor light fixture from the mounting plate.

I'll happily truck it down to the local recycling centre but if it's worth anything I'd rather have the few quid myself.

My downstairs cools down to about 75 degrees while my upstairs is nearly 81 degrees. I have tried closing the vents downstairs, which helps, but it is still not enough. Is there any cheap solution? Would it be worth adding insulation in the ceiling? I have storm windows and cheap blinds.

Builder put Tyvek directly on studs, then put up walls, then siding directly on wood. They say it's ok, but Typar and Tyek say it's not. Anyone ever hear of this??

Tranformers are located in utility easement. They have overgrown so much that no one can access utility box anymore and performing maintenance may be risky due to electrocution danger, bees/wasp nests, impacting utility to other neighborhood residents.

We are having our hardwood floors refinished this month which means it's like MOVING! Everything off the floor. So.... what suggestions do you have? We will be on vacation and most can go in the garage, but would like to rent a pod type of thing to store it in but I don't know the name of any companies like that.

I have a quick question! My 14year old son stayed in a Hilton hotel recently and he went to the bathroom in his room and blocked the toilet up. The toilet started overflowing and did not stop. He called housekeeping and then went to get a couple of adults to help. Unfortunately they did not stop the water overflowing and the toilet continued to overflow until housekeeping came up almost an hour later. By this time a huge amount of damage had been done by the large volume of water. Now the hotel has sent me a bill for the damage $3000. I was wondering if the toilet should have shut off automatically after a few minutes (as ours does at home) or if there was something wrong with the toilet. Nothing went down the toilet other than poop and toilet paper. I would really appreciate your help as I really think that the toilet should have shut off automatically.
