Technically if it needs refridgerent that means it has a leak and has to be fixed. You cannot purchase this stuff on your own.

However, before you contact a pro, check and make sure that the filter (big thin looking thing) is not dirty and clogged, this will stop the cold air from coming out and it will basically just trickle out.

Look at the unit, if it has ICE on the copper pipe that is insulated that means its freezing up. If you can't pull out the filter that means it is also frozen in place. Ventilate the area around the unit inside the house (not the outside part) and let the ice melt away. You do this by running the fan on the thermostat but not the AC. Put some drop cloths down to catch the melting ice. Eventually you will be able to pull out the filter and replace it. After about 3-4 hours all of the built up ice on the insulated pipe will be melted, and you can turn it back on with a new filter in place.

Filter should only be like $20.

You should feel instant results if this was the problem.

Again, this is all on the inside of the house not the outside, Usually you would find the fan wherever their furnace is. Feel around for an insulated pipe, probably wrapped with a insulation foam or styrafoam type thing.

Could be one of many things, but if it is refrigerant you will need to hire a technician.

If you are not sure? Go check the filters, if they're OK call in a pro. You cannot recharge your own system.
