Sounds like you have a fridge and freezer like i have -exept mine is a samsung.I would say,-like mine, you have two seperate motors and compressor units, one for the freezer and one for the refridgerator.your refrigeration unit has lost its gas and needs a regas.I suppose you have run out of warranty?if so you can only pay someone to fix it as it is a specialist job.I would ring the place you bought it from and see what they have to say.good luck--and oh find your owners instuction manual and it will tell you in the specifications that it is two separate units.

You most likely have a defrost problem. Check the back wall of the freezer for frost. If there is frost on the back wall that is why the fresh food section is not getting cold. All of the cooling is done behind the back wall of the freezer and the evaporator fan that you hear running must circulate the air throughout the entire refrigerator. If the frost builds up on the evaporator coils there is little or no air flow.

The most likely reason for the frost is the adaptive defrost control not working properly. This is not a simple thing to change and should be left to a pro to handle as things can be damaged in the removal and installation of this control.

No one suggested the basics. Check to see if the light is going out when the ref. door is closed. A 40 watt appliance bulb can generate enough heat to keep it warm. Also be sure the air flow from freezer is not blocked and control is set correctly. Freezer does all the cooling. Air flow supplies cooling to the ref. side. If all the above check ok ,call for service.

Sorry, but even the best service tech can not give you an absolute cause of your problem without being there to inspect the situation. Applianceman is most likely correct tho,, sounds like a defrost problem to me too. It could be a defrost timer stuck, or gone bad, it could be a defrost heater coil burned out, or it could be something as simple as an air vent from the freezer to the refrigerator closed.

Call your local fridge repairman because something is broken and you should still be under warranty from Maytag. But if not i hope that it is a short and not your compressor................
