The weeds are mostly dead at the root, and it's prairie grass, which is notoriously tough. I've tried pulling, digging as best I can, boiling water, even burning, and nothing works, so I may have to resort to chemicals.

I am looking for the perfect tree that will be the centerpiece for my yard. I will be placing the tree behind my swimming pool so I am looking for something that will not shed all of its leaves in the pool. I would also like for it to keep some sort of color year round. Hight requirement 12-20feet. Any suggestions?

Newfoundland weather is very unpredictable this time of year. Worried lawn won't take!

Areas on the leaves are turning black on my Kentia Paradise Palm houseplant. Can you suggest what may be wrong with it? This is a direct link to a photo hosted on Photobucket:

I recieved a gift last weekend of a potted plant which is actually an olive tree. I'm clueless when it comes to gardening. Do i leave it in the pot and water it like a normal plant or do i plant it, if so when? I live in Ireland and we don't have the hot climate i'm only guessing you need to grown one of these. Any suggestions welcome! Thanks.

It was a round, green seed pod with soft spikes coming out of it. First of all, I'm not sure it's a wild cucumber. I was told it came from a vine... So my question is: Is it a wild cucumebr, and if so, will it kill him? If not, what the hell is it?

My friend's grandmother used to buy it, believe it or not, at an animal feed store in Southern California. The flowers were made like this: You took very thin bendable wire and formed the flower petals by bending the wire. Then you would dip the wire into some type of liquid plastic and pull it out and the liquid would sort of gel and would fill in the petals and would be completely dry in about 30 minutes. What you would have was a wire flower outline with hardened (not brittle) rubbery see-through colored plastic that would make the petals. I don't know how else to describe it. I do not know if the materials were part of a kit or if you bought them indiviually. Does anyone have any idea of what this craft is called or remember anything like this? Any help would be great!

I have hardy mums and I wanted to know should I cut off the dead flowers now or do I wait until spring? Or what should I do so that my flowers will survive until next year (we live in TX so its not going to be that cold of a winter)?

I have a cape honeysuckle plant that is finally producing flowers starting about 3 weeks ago around november 8th. That plant grew great all summer and spring but never produced a single orange flower. Now it is blooming like crazy. I wonder why. Is it normal for that plant to bloom this late in the fall? I hope the cold weather does not affect it. It is weird that it did not bloom during the spring and summer.

It's very healthy, though it seems to have outgrown its 6" pot. Now it's putting out bunches of brown "feelers." What do I do with that? Are they looking for more soil to grow in?
Should I plant it outside? I'm in N Texas and we have freezes regularly and snow 2-3 times a winter.

I am a new gardner.
I planted Firewitch Dianthus plants down our sidewalk. They are doing great!
On either side of our baywindow I planted two trees which are doing fine.
Under our Baywindow I planted a purple budded perenial infront of the bay window. This plant was supposed to need little watering.
Infront of the purple budded plant (don't remember the name) I planted an Ice plant. It had puffy looking leaves, and was supposed to get yellow flowers.
The purple plants did fine for a good while. But the Ice plant was overwatered by myself and ended up with a fungi. I dug them up and re-planted new ones...and rarely watered them. They did GREAT! Then purple plant behind suffered from the lack of water and dried up.
Then we had a week of straight rain, the good looking ice plants shrivled up and died.
Please help! I really want a colorful/pretty area under our window year round. What is a good durrable combo of plants? I in MD. We will go from drought to rain fast in the summer.

The new growth, a stem about 2 inches, broke off my Phal. If I put it in water will it grow roots so I can replant it? I was so excited to see the new growth, left for vacation, came back, and the stem was broken. Any advice? Thanks!
