The weeds are mostly dead at the root, and it's prairie grass, which is notoriously tough. I've tried pulling, digging as best I can, boiling water, even burning, and nothing works, so I may have to resort to chemicals.

Try killing off tough weeds with salt - but not good if you are visited regularly by toads - it's poisonous to them. If not pathclear kills everything and keeps things from growing for 6 months.

Pour some table salt in the crack...that usually does it. May have to repeat it a couple times.

Yeah, I would definitely use chemicals. Once they are dead, scrape all the dirt out of the crack and fill it, either with concrete, or you could use caulk even, since it's waterproof.

Fill it with cement. Buy a bag of cement and mix it and poor the cement in there

White vinegar works on most weeds, or diesel fuel as a last resort
