...on trees (crape myrtle) and bushes that are currently blooming? The crape myrtle didn't bloom too well last year and is getting a late/slow start this year.

I am trying to do up my front walkway, a small one, and make it a nice flowery garden. I have roses and hydrangeas now, but it doesn't look that great, any recommendations to make it pretty?

They are in my mother's flower bed; however, she does not remember planting them. I assume they are weeds, but she does not want to pull them out until she knows.

The first one has spiked leaves and is growing upward only, here are 2 images:

The second one has smoother leaves and is growing outward and upward, here are 3 images:

I would like to plant several climbing roses. I would like to plant some by my wood fence which is on the south side, but because of the fence, the ground is shaded, but further up the fence is not. I would like one that continuously blooms {as much as possible, even if they are small blooms. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

I have five grandfather hickory trees. They are beautiful and would never dream of cutting them down. But this year they are dropping thousands of nuts all through the yard. Mowing has become hazardous. How can I efficiently get them up off the ground? And once collected, can I do something with them besides just throw them out?

Thank you!

My puppy ran through my boyfriend's Iris Garden and now all the leaves on the plants are no longer standing up, but stomped down. They are still connected to the base of the plant, though. I have put a fence around them so my puppy will no longer run thru them. However, I am wondering if the Iris plants will stand tall, again?

My palm tree started smoking from the soil. There was a lot of smoke coming out of the pot. I don't know how this could happen. This is what the palm tree has been exposed to in the past 3 weeks.

week 1. The neighborhood kids knocked over the pot containing my palm tree. Pot has hairline crack. "kids stood it back up."

week 2. Leaves start dying. Only top stem remains. Someone mysteriously clips the dead leaves from my tree.

week 3. Top stem starts to bloom. Another stem starts to sprout.

Today. Seems fine in the morning. In the afternoon the soil inside the pot starts to smoke. I put my hand on the soil and it felt like the soil deep in the pot was burning hot. Smoke was coming out of the soil. I poured alot of water on the tree. The smoking stopped.

Does anyone know what happened here?

I recently moved form NY to SC, and the lawn at my new house is atrocious and I'm at a loss as to how to proceed. My new lawn has crabgrass and dallisgrass on the sides and back of my house ( the front portion is fine for some reason). The lawn also has another weed, but I'm unsure of what it is. It is vinelike in nature and looks alot like Rosemary. It seems to spread form a central location, spreading in all directions for about 1 foot and then it re-roots itself in that new location, although only the central root system is more then 1 inch deep and is much larger in gerth.

The lawn also has large brown spots, all are irregularly shapped. The brown spots are not dead grass, but are instead dried up and dead areas of the "Rosemary" type weed described above. The dead areas range form 5 sq. ft. to 20 sq. ft. There are 5 such areas about my lawn.

I have proceeded to remove, by hand, the bunches of crabgrass and dallisgrass as I see them, and at the same time I'm removing the "Rosemary" type weed, but this weed has long vinelike stems that dive in and out of the earth all over the yard. Irradicating it by hand seems impossible.

What should I do? I have pulled up every bunch of crabgrass that I can see, but I'm unsure how to proceed. Should my main concern be applying weed killer and seeding the lawn in late AUgust ( or early Spring)? Or is it too late in the season for that? Should I be concerned with overseeding and using a starter fertilizer and some topsoil? Should I only overseed the bare spots, or apply new seed to the entire lawn?

Thank you

I noticed there are 3 numbers on the weed n' feed bags. How do you determine what you need when purchasing this stuff? My yard has a lot of weeds now, and we live in Illinois.
