With all the rain in Texas this year, I had a small pumpkin patch come up where I tossed the seeds from last year's jack-o-lantern. There is a very nice pumpkin growing that I would like to use for this Halloween. It is already orange and (I assume) ripening. With four months between now and then I am wondering if I should harvest it or leave it on the stalk. If I do harvest, how do I keep it until October?

And is there any way to encourage more blooms? I've only had these in the ground for two years and they seem to be thriving, but instead of more bloom heads now, I'm seeing these pod-like things and have no clue what they are or what to do, if anything.
Thanks for any advice!

I've heard of hanging a plastic bag of water (or vinegar, or something...actually i don't know what's in it)...in a doorway or by windows to keep flies out. Do you know what that is, or have any other suggestions? I don't like "fly tape" or anything like that.
We like to sit on the back patio by the fire pit, but there are tons of flies.
Any ideas?

The pesky little critter has been relocated, fenced, and still manages to come back and eat my veggies. I'm sick of it.

Are any water companies still talking about hosepipe bans or is the drought over ? If so, why had it not been formally announced - or did I miss it ?

I'd like to create a few new flower beds. There are areas on my property that I'd like to plant perennials but are now full of weeds and brush, including a couple areas of grass in my front yard that a herbicide won't kill. I found a "recipe" using salt and vinegar that is supposed to kill anything. How long after applying this concoction can I plant my perennials? Or will I have created a desolate wasteland?

A bird planted an acorn tree in our front yard. And after so long its now just getting acorn's on the tree. Its planted next to another huge tree that we planted and so I was just curious how big it will get, and if it should be replanted to another area so their won't be such over crowding?
