Hi zerricksmomma,

If your patio area gets lots of sun and you want something that will give lots of color... I would recommend wave petunias or moss rose...both grow upwards and also will cascade down .. both are very easy to care for...as long as they are water they will produce blooms all summer long and well into the fall....If your patio is shaded most of the day...I would suggest going with ferns....there are many different types and some do really well in pots....... if the pots are moved inside during the winter you can have them all year long........

here is a website that gives lots of information on container Gardens.... http://gardening.about.com/od/containergardening/a/ContainerPlants.htm

this might give you some kind of idea of what you like and what will work best on your patio....

Potted palms and evergreens are very nice. Also, a good mix of perennials and annuals with compatible light and water needs are great for splashes of color. Even a few hanging baskets of ivy or philodendrons would look lovely. There is so much you can choose from. Take a trip to a supercenter or garden center and see what they have.

Landscaping almost any property can be fairly straightforward, but when the goal is to create privacy around a home situated on a corner lot, you'll want to carefully designate the areas known as "front" and "back" yards. Privacy is often created by fencing, tall hedges and trees, or by combining these options in different ways. Whether you hire a professional landscaper or do the work yourself, having a solid plan that meets your budget is a wise approach.

Succulents are very low maintenance, and some are strikingly beautiful.

Annuals like fibrous begonia, coleus and geranium do well in containers.
