Snails and slugs need to stay very moist. But salt desiccates them.

Any Salt but it also makes them go slimy & you will have to clean up the mess.

have you tried slug traps?
all you do is put some beer in them & empty them in the morning when all the snails are pissed.

Because it dehydrates them. They have a naturally slimy body, and leave a sticky wet residue behind when they move. They need moisture to live, therefore if they come into contact with salt, it absorbs the moisture, taking if from them, causing them to die.

Sprinkling a slug with a few grains of salt will cause it to crawl out of its slime coat. Then apply a second time--this is the lethal one.

because the snails are mainly made up of water and salt is like the opposite of water so it pulls all the moisture out of them, dehydrating and shrinking them till they die!

Salt, Sodium Chloride, reacts with any water and produces heat which will evaporate the water and dry anything up.
