They are in my mother's flower bed; however, she does not remember planting them. I assume they are weeds, but she does not want to pull them out until she knows.

The first one has spiked leaves and is growing upward only, here are 2 images:

The second one has smoother leaves and is growing outward and upward, here are 3 images:

Your first one is definitely a weed although I can't remember what it is called. The second group of photos is also a weed called red root pigweed.

The first is a weed, I don't know what it is called, but I recognize it.
The second I recognize as well, it looks a lot like an herb called basil.
It even flowers like basil. Does it have a scent?

If it doesn't smell like basil then it probably isn't. I even went out to look at my basil just to make sure and it certainly looks similar.
Sorry, I wish I could have been more help.

Yes the first one is definitely a weed. The second one sure does look like basil and it's kind of pretty.

They sure look like weeds to me.

I think in gardening anything that grows without much effort on your own part regardless of how much you like how it looks is by definition a weed. Anything that dies despite careful watering and fertilizing is not a weed.

that's a carrot - rabbits like it and so do I. Grated carrots spiced with lime juice, coriander leaves, particularly spiced eco-friendly chillies & salt, all saved soaked for an hour. produces a superb sparkling salad. I certainly have it on a daily basis for lunch.

they look like weeds to me. Bring those pictures to your local nursery, they should be able to identify them for you! Best wishes!
