Ilex opaca American Holly is a tall tree unsuited for hedges. other holly choices include fosteri, savannah, burfordi, lusterleaf, emily brunner, etc. a denser tree would be Tsuga canadensis Hemlock. my choice would be osmanthus=dense foliage and fragrance! Osmanthus heterophyllus or O. X fortunei. i'm an UGA horticulturist and LDS. good luck
