I am contemplating installing a fierplace in a house that is one story and not made of brick. How much do you think this will cost me? Are there any cheaper alternatives? Thanks in advance!

I have just painted my daughter's room apple green although I had wanted a more olive green. The color chosen didn't turn out how I had wanted it to be (olive green). Now I am wanting to repaint it to the olive green but after testing new intended color on white walls AND also on the apple green walls, it turns out that the results differ although I have using the exact same paint. The one painted on the apple green has a mustard tone while on the white walls, it is what I want. How do I solve the problem?

A contractor did the plumbing work in my house. Some of it is in my living room ceiling. Some of it started to leak after we had moved in and the ceiling was up. We agreed that he would fix it by handshake. The original work was done under a contract. It's my belief that he should have to fix it anyways. He's fixed the leak, now he's repairing the ceiling he had to tear out from the leak, and he left a mess in my house because he didn't cover anything up. I confronted him about it, because I have a 5 week old baby in the house. He claims he didn't because we didn't give him the stuff to cover up the room with, and he doesn't have that stuff. I told him that was unprofessional, and he threatened not to come back and finish. He said he didn't have to finish. Is there anything I can do if he decides not to? Not to mention it's taken him 3 months to get this far.

I was planning on tiling my living room with nice porcelin tile. There is a stair case in the living room that goes to a second floor that had carpet but I removed it. Now there is generic builders wood stair case underneath it that is unfinishable or usable. I want to put a wood or laminate over it. The stairs are 11 x 35 and I only want to cover the foot (step) portion. Is there a laminate or wood that has the nose piece and foot portion all in one built in? I just want something to install over it that is easy and will kind of fit right over the stair without having to install seperate pieces. Any help is much appreciated.

My parents and I are re-modeling parts of our home and we'd like to know what kind of laminate wood flooring could be used on a concrete floor. Glue or glueless?

Bear in mind that my parents are both home improvement people (Dad is a roofing supervisor; Mom works as a dept. manager for a local indie hardware store). However, they are open to advice and suggestions from others on what kind of laminate wood flooring to use on concrete floors.

I have true red and navy curtains, comforter, and bed skirt. What color should I paint the walls? I can't really do the red or navy, it'll be too dark. Any suggestions?

and I'm painting it beige or tan. But I'm trying to think of an accent color, like you know the color that you put on one wall. I was thinking like a dark purple or purpleish? Would that look bad? any reccomendations?
