Anything built with memory foam is awful - not to mention all the chemicals involved in not just memory foam padding, but mattresses in general. Down or NATURAL latex are both more comfortable - & safe. First of all, why would I want the foam to have a memory of the shape that laid in it? I know the intent is that it's meant to retract back to its existing state rather than 'remember' your body impression, but this does eventually happen - at least in my experience anyway. Then you end up feeling like you're sleeping in a sinkhole. I'm not always going to lay on it in the exact same spot or position. The eventual indentation of body-shape forces you to become trapped in the same position. Not to mention the issue of VOCs due to the materials they're constructed with. Plus I think it's been more of a gimmicky fad which serves no real purpose other than a new 'angle' for a company to market. In my experience, you also end up sweating in the summer & it doesn't help keep you warm in the winter so it's uncomfortable 'climate-wise' for your body..

I have a goose down mattress pad! They're great because they're washable and unlike foam, if you get a dent from always sleeping in the same spot, you just fluff it back up! To avoid getting poked by feathers I'd put a regular mattress pad over the top. There are some really nice and inexpensive Sealy brand ones available at Costco.

I don't know about the mattress, but I bought a memory foam pillow one time and it ended up being really hard and uncomfortable. To me, the memory foam is a little fadish. I'd say to stick with the one that's been used for hundreds of years.

I had a goose down, and yes they are more comfortable. The memory foam DOES lose the "memory" after a few years of use.
