Depends on what you're coloring with it.
Personally, I think it's kinda obnoxious, but I've seen people use it before, so you could pull it off :)

I like it in clothes, not in rooms. It could be a bit too over powering.
But if all accents are white it can look quite stunning.
And it has nothing to do with the 70's or being italian.
I've seen designer dresses in red with purple sashes or purple inserts in the skirt part. Looked really nice. Just make sure that the hue of the colors look nice together. And never purple and pink unless you're a little girl.

What exactly are you using the two colors for?
There are many different shades of purple and red. While some look good together, others may look tacky. It is hard to say whether or not the purple and red colors you want to use compliment one another. I would suggest choosing one bold color and choosing a second color that isn't as loud.
I personally would not use the two colors together.

All colors go together. However, 2 colors such as purple and red can be tricky. These are 2 very bold colors...or at least they can be. Try to pick which one you want to stand out the most and go with it. Then, use a lighter shade of the other color as an accent. It should work.

depends what it's for and the other colors in the room. Purple and red could be fine but not if there are too many other colors together with them. As a rule, limit colors (esp. dark colors like these) because they tend to make a room seem smaller. So unless this is what you're trying to accomplish, always balance a deep/ dark color with a light/ neutral one.

I love purple and HATE red. When you put them next to each other one or the other stands out more and it's not that great. I suppose it depends on your taste. If it's clothing definately not. If it's decioration for a room with a neutral color as an accent it might not look too bad.

Complementary colors are opposite on the color wheel. Red and green, yellow and violet, blue and orange, are the three simple pairs of complementary colors. These colors always go well with each other, hence the term complimentary. But I love red and purple!

Lilac and a deep red shade. Light and dark when colors are this close on the color wheel. Thumbs up for Delta.

Nope. Purple goes well will green and gold pretty well (think Mardi Gras) and red goes well with black and white the best. I don't think they would make a good combination though.

Only if the two colors aren't on your body....and you don't enjoy cuts and bruises. I myself would go with purple and green. Like Barney the dinosaur. I think red sucks as a color anyway....But I'm a dude and half colorblind...so that's my perogative.
