What is the clear stuff that people spray or paint over food to preserve it. It is clear, thick and shiny. Any ideas?

If you want that thick shiny finish, use Ultra Thick Gloss Glaze and Sealer from the craft store and it will do the trick most of the time with one application.

You can just use a clear paint spray. My sister-in-law makes gingerbread houses and just sprays them with clear paint. I used a couple of them for about 7 years. I just wrapped them up each year with the rest of my decorations.

Shellac but it doesn't stay clear. Try Spar varnish - they use it on boats - stays clear & shiny. You can't spray the thick varnishes. You might consider urethane.
